moparmikethree OP super stock M Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 710 Harrisburg Pa. 17112	What causes the case of a battery to bulge. It is pushed out. Is the Alt overcharging?

a4runer member A Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 91 S.E. Wis	It's over charging alot. Regulator stuck open and alternator running full tilt. Should also be able to smell the battery cooking after a long drive.Stick a volt meter across it and bring the rpm's up some and the volt meter will probally get up over 16/17 volts no problem.....needs only 13.8 or so while driving.

Exactly. 13.8 volts is max the regulator should let the alternator charge. Probably cooked that battery too. New regulator definitely, and probably a new battery now.
