Hi,

I was wanting to buy a new set of rockers for my 360. I'm sick of the rattle of the old stamped ones I have now.

Would I see a noticeable difference going to a 1.6 ratio with this combo, do you think I have a clearance issue, and is there away I can check clearance with the engine in the car with the heads on...

here are some numbers...
Stock stroke 360
X heads - they have been decked a bit.. maybe 0.015
Cam is a .480 lift with 1.5 rockers
cam duration@ 0.050 is 224/230
Pistons are flat tops. I cant remember the number but they are equivalent to KB107 which I broke twice and replaced with a forged piston.

so the 1.6 would make the lift around .512..

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

your lift with the 1.6 rockers on a .480 cam could be as high as.520,....small block 340/360 with stock flat tops are limited to about .490 max before getting seriously close to piston/valve interference,....depending on how much you may have decked off the block, or milled off the heads, I sure you'll be well under .100 piston to valve clearance, even with the smaller stock 1.88 intake valves,.....if you decide to go 1.6 rockers, do a clay mock up of a few cylinders to see what your piston to valve clearance is,...head gasket choice can affect installed height also, so weigh all these factors into the math,...IMHO I wouldn't want to see anything less than .080 clearance between the piston to valve....

Thanks,

Looks like if I want to go that route I better get ready to pull the sucker apart just to make sure.

you say the pistons are flat tops...

do they have valve notches in them?

and secondly...you camshaft with only 230 duration is too small to worry about valve to piston clearance..

it is not the total lift,,,

valve to piston clearance is checked while the camshaft is in the the overlap period...the exhaust valve is closing and the intake is opening..while the piston is near tdc..
