It makes this noise under power, but also has made it with the driveshaft off and being pushed. Where should I be checking? Axle bearings, center section or ?? Is this something the cone style sure grip does? It has been a long time since I have used anything other than the clutch style sure grip. Any advice is appreciated.

That doesn't sound good , is it making the clunk going straight or are you making a turn ?
just say no to cone types

You may need to change the fluid and add 1 bottle of friction modifier.
 my supercoupe rear is noisy,it has a cone type s/g,too.pops when you backup,and acts like the "clutches" are sticking.
