Question for those who have actually measured EGT's
What EGT have you seen under the following conditions:
A) idle B) cruising rpm C) WOT

1000 F running 40-90% load 500 idle in collectors. but 12-1400F right at head ex.port. and yes u can tune mixture and timing with a good vacuum and exhaust gauge. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wrench.gif)

1000rpm.......350* 2500rpm.......600* 6500rpm.......1000* Obviously every combo is different.
1400* should be fine for 1/4 mile passes , running these temps for longer periods can melt pistons pretty quickly , also depends on where the probe is positioned......1400* coupled with detonation will destroy the engine in a short space of time.
On another note , i installed two EGT gauges on my 460ci turbo diesel truck , one was before the turbo & one after the turbo , those gauges roughly read around 300* difference in temperature , obviously pre turbo temps read higher than post turbo , different animal but along the same lines , get boost up to 15psi & EGTs climb to 1400* rapidly.

Heres the spreadsheet for the EGT results from my testing the morning as you can see I have one egt sensor going bad ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bawling.gif) @ 120.oo each also from the O2 reading and EGT temps the 850 is much to lean. I have the hi limit set for 1450 f. the EGT port is welded one inch from the flange of the header and the tip of the probe is centered in the tube of the header. hope this helps.

where do you read 2500? 1450 max I like to see 1200 with a normaly asperated engine each engine seems to have its own charictristics. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

Should of worn my glasses , was looking @ #1. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif)
Always found the lower the compression ratio the higher the EGTs , retarded timing can also raise exhaust gas temps , messed around with ex valve lash on the last motor ,this also effected EGTs , lots of variables & each engine to their own.![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)
