i have a chance to buy a tunnel ram and 2 carter avs for 200 bucks.the guy says they are hemi carbs.how can i tell?

Hemi AFB's have the small air cleaner throat and are right side fuel inlets, after that it's time to check the #'s. And no AVS on a Street Hemi.

To make it easy on yourself have the guy give you the numbers stamped into the faces of the passenger side front mounting feet. Post them here and we'll tell you what they are. BTW, I agree with all of the above, AFB's only, Small tops only. The carbs did vary slightly in physical appearance over the years, you need the numbers. Here's a pic of an original set of 1966 Hemi carbs.

Here's what the stampings look like, the 4 digit number followed by the "S" is the number you want, the single letter/number is the date code. In this case it is a 1968 Hemi Carb #4430 (front carb, either transmission) the date, K7 = October 1967 production.

ok,i was wrong.the carbs are afb.they look just like the 68 carbs,down to the vacum diaphram on the side of the carb.one has a 2x marking on the right side top.

The markings on the tops have nother to do with i.d. you need the numbers off the feet, and btw, other non Hemi AFB's look allot like the Hemi carbs (including the dash pot) you can not go by appearance alone.
