So whats the thoughts on V/L settings?

I have stage6 aluminum heads, a Hughes 594/605
Cam. crane 1.6 roller rockers.
Cam chart says set lash at 18/20 hot.
We set the lash initially at 22/24 cold.

We were subsequentially told to set cold lash setting .004 tighter than the Hot setting.
( .014/.018)

Is this correct??

Just wondering.

Car ran well at the looser setting.

Thanks in advance

Deron

With an iron block and aluminum heads the lash typically grows .004-.006 so that's right. Its best to set the lash hot at least once and check again when cold to make sure the "rule of thumb" works.

With the lash set higher, the cam will act smaller... less top end. Plus, if its set too much higher the cam could get beat up... best to set it as recommended and see how it runs.

Another "rule of thumb"... changing lash settings from recommended by up to +/- .004 is usually OK. More than that is risky.

You've gone the wrong direction. The heads and block grow, which ADDS to the lash. When setting cold lash, you need to go 4-6 thousandths TIGHTER than warm. With alum. Heads, hit the igh side of that. If lash reccomendation calls for 18-20 warm, you should be at about 12-14 cold.

Where you're at now, when hot your at nearly .030!
