I've got a 2000 Ram 1500 with a 5.9, and the motor is surging at idle. Plugs and wires are good and new, so I'm thinking MAP sensor or TPS sensor. Any good way to check parts at home, or should I just start replacing sensors?

At idle, it ranges from 500 to 1500 rpms, then bounces back and forth. If I rev the motor up, it usually settles back down and then idles smoothly at about 900 for a while.

Any help is appreciated.

There should also be an ICM (idle control motor) that could be acting up, they tend to get carboned up.

Clean the throttle body & relearn idle strategy...

I was just cleaning out my saved threads, and found this one. I replaced the PCV before attacking anything else, and that fixed it! What are the odds of that?!?
