I had a whole can of Rage Gold that sat on the shelf to long, but other things were more important.
I have sticker shock at the price of it
In the past at the shop I worked at we used Z-Grip and other Production/volume/shop priced items.
Is there anything inbetween the 2 worth tring

When I did my Challenger Z-grip was the good stuff, it'd been on the car for close to twenty years no issues... Recent projects I've used Rage Gold... Can't say it's any better just more $$$..

Z-Grip is fine, especially if you're doing alot of mud work and trying to save some $$, just don't expect it to sand like butter.

We used Marson Platinum for several years with very good success. It's now owned by 3M (they seem to buy out good competion) and is marketed under the 3M name as Platinum. They also have an even smoother blend that we have switched to, and that is Platinum Plus.
Not cheap, but has everything you want in a filler. The greatest benefit I've noticed is practically zero pin-holes.

I ended up getting 2 cans of Evercoat Z-Grip 1 can of "Spot-Lite" putty, Slick Sand Primer and one of those 100 sheet mixing boards

I've been using the Evercoat Quantum-1. Very good plastic, and no need for a finishing putty. Sands like butter and it can go direct to metal since it is a hybrid epoxy/polyester. Spendy but well worth the dough (no pun intended!)

I know that that a guy I use for body work swears that the price Summit charges for Rage Gold is way cheaper than his other suppliers...maybe that is true and can ease the pain of the price for you too if you really like the Rage...he does, says there is nothing like it for sanding....

Just my

I've used the standard "Rage" multiple times on multiple projects...

I like it, but at the end of the day I still had to skim coat it with polyester (EasySand etc.)
to eliminate pinholes and sand scratches.

With the "lesser" quality body fillers
like Z-Grip/Chroma-lite/lite weight etc.
You almost always have to go over them with polyesters/glaze etc.

I've never tried Rage Gold or Rage Extreme....

I'm told that if you use either of those two products you should\can eliminate the polyester step.... If that's really true, then I guess I could stomach the bump in price.. (I Think Rage Gold is at $58.00 plus these days...

But, if I have to skim coat it with polyester then to me, it doesn't seem like its worth the extra price.

A gallon of Z-Grip/ chroma-lite/ lite-weight etc.. plus the glaze (if you don't buy the most expensive glaze) still doesnt equal a gallon
of Rage Gold/Rage extreme...

T/A hood made by ASC&P that was on member Steffs car but he needed a taller one.
It was held on with 4 pins since he was racing. Nice heavy after market bolt on hood made like the originals were. Steff gave me a smoking deal and made a great wood box {back in 2005} But soon afterwards my home got wind/water damages. So it became wall art along with the glass R/T hood that came off my 71
It was painted nice but, was put into storage and got a few chips. Had few low spots and a few really high ones so blocking it.
Looks like it was shot with primer then base clear, then few spots fixed and the same, then base clear again thus the blocking.
I was/is tickeled pink to have gotten it as the guy who makes them only does 3-4 a year and at a good deal to boot
{thanks Steff}
So figure I am going the whole 9 yards on both hoods and let them sit and wait for the car to be put on.
An hours work is an hours work

I slaped on some blue tape to mark the low spots for pics
I media blasted the underside to get the paint off with low pressure and fine media

I should have just scuffed it and shot some dupont or kirker hot rod black
