When settling on the final drive ratio what should I shoot for? Peak torque or peak HP through the traps?

Set it so you cross the traps at 10% higher than the
peak HP rpm

The only reason to vary from that would be something like a stroker with small heads where it would lay down after peak hp real quick.

Actually that is kind of what I have. Was built for good torque and gas mileage. Goes like hell to about 4800 RPM then just lays down. I'm leaning towards 3.73 ratio.

Still comes down to the same thing... but your HP
number is lower
