If you habe a decent volt ohm meter, LCD or LED read out so you can see tenths of a volt, read the voltage output going towards the battery on the output big lead. If it isn't putting out at least 13+ volts revved up right after starting the motor up take it to a decent parts store and have them check it out for you. I had a sqaure back go bad at the races earlier this month, I have a LED volt meter in the car now and the voltage dropped from 13.6+ to 14.2 down to 11.8 to 12.4 revved up Not enough to keep the battery up when running the electric fuel pump, MSD, wide ban and constantly starting the motor up during eliminations Luckily I run two big batterys and I was able to charge it enough between rounds that kept the batterys charged enough to get me to the end of the day before loosing in the 4th round

The alternator could be charging, but not charging enough. It could have a bad diode or the wire from the alt to the battery not big enough, bad connection (causing voltage drop) or belt slipping. Or the alt my not be big enough now. If you have a 37 amp alt and are drawing 40 amps, you will always be looseing ground. I agree with C A, take it to a parts store and let them check the output.

Set it at 20 ohms and check your voltage
