I have used the white lubriplate assembly grease on countless engines over the last 23 years...works great!
Going back more years than that. Have also mixed STP and oil and dobbed onto the bearing face before during assembly. If you are going to fire the engine in short order and not leave it sitting around after being assembled and you prime the system good I really don't think that it makes much difference what you use. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

Most people lube the bearings with good, clean motor oil when installing the crank for the final time, but if the crank will be turned some before initial fire-up, say when degreeing a cam or other reasons, would it be better to use some kind of assembly lube? And if so, what is a good brand?
Lots of stuff out there for this. Comp Cams, Permatex, Joe Gibb, etc. make a really sticky lube which I've used on the last couple of builds I've done. In the past I've used lubriplate on countless engines with no issues. Others will say that in some cases the stuff has clogged oil passages and causes issues. If you want to sleep better, I'd probably use the sticky lube.
