Friend's daughter messed up her 2000 Neon. He needs a 2.0 and tranny. What years can he scrounge from? 2000 up only?

Other models?

The basic engine is the same as the 2.0 SOHC from 95 up but the intake is different from 95-99.

The trans depends on witch one you have, 3spd autos should all be interchangable, 5spd manuals should all be interchangable but there were a few different ratio sets available and if you have a 4spd auto you will be looking for 2000 up as the older ones only had the 3spd auto and 5spd manual.

If he says it's so then it's so . I just thought the 4spd came out when the new body came out.

While the 99 and earlier engines are basically the same, it will be much less hassle to use a 2000 or newer. There were a lot of little changes that will have to be figured out. And while it is out and easy to get to, change the water pump and timing belt.

Master, again and still

95-2002 engines will interchange. the intakes are only different on 2000 and up but thats the only difference

2003 and up engines will not work because the crank sensor is completley different, chrysler also changed computers and all electronics in 2003

The '95 engines have many differences from the '96-'99s- coil pack, valve cover, SOHC camshaft, EGR and evap. system, intake, etc.

For just a block, a few posts above is good advice. Keep the trans the same year if at all possible to avoid any differences with the PCM.
