My 2-cents

0.022" Top
0.024" 2nd

A few reasons for variation:
Nitrous
Blower
Turbo
Street
Bore size
Injected alcohol
Big power vs moderate power
Piston material/ring pack location (hypereutectic)

I just finished gapping the rings in my 527 race gas bracket motor(12.7 to 1 Comp. Ratio), I set the top rings at .022 and the second rings at .024 to .026 at the rear of the motor(after getting to agaressive on the ring filer on the first two second rings) It is always way better to have .003 to big on the end gap than .0003 to small Been there done that
