I remember seeing the Joe Gerdelsmann car several times at Englishtown and flipping out over what a cool ride it is.
Mal, it's kind of hard to put a value on 500's and Daytonas nowadays. It seems that they can vary pretty widely in price. Charger 500's are especially tough to price out. You see pretty nice ones advertised for around $30,000 but they seem to stay for sale for a long time. As cool and as unique as the 500's are, they are, unfortunately, the red-headed stepchild of Chargers. Everyone either wants an R/T or a Daytona. The 500's have some extremely unique features and an awesome pedigree but it seems that there aren't a lot of takers for them.
The Daytonas are also kind of tough to price. It seems that a really nice 440 Daytona will set you back around $80,000-$90,000. I called on a Daytona just tonight that is owned by a fellow near OzHemi in California who ALMOST beat me to the punch on the Aussie Daytona. It's an original orange car that was painted silver many years ago and has a molded nose and fender scoops and is a matching numbers 51,000 mile car. He's asking $65,000 for it. I also know of another Daytona that is in pretty rough condition that may be able to be bought for somewhere between $30,000-$40,000. Before anyone EVEN asks me the whereabouts of that car, I already promised first shot at it to a fellow Moparts member and long-time friend here local.
I don't know if any of this helps or not but that's basically what I figure the 500 and Daytona market is like right now. Some other input and hearing what others think would be cool.

Dave, the silver Daytona seems like a pretty cool car. It has a white tail which probably looks pretty unusual on a silver car. It's a black interior and still has it's original build sheet which is unusual for a black interior car. It was in Ohio many years ago and has changed hands several times out west and was in New Mexico for a time before ending up back in California. If anyone out here is interested, the seller's name is Dave and he is about five minutes away from OzHemi near Garden Grove, California. His number is 714-742-2832. Price is said to be firm at $65,000. It'd be nice to see someone here on the board end up with it.

The silver car that was origionally painted EV2 orange and from Ohio huh. That car was on Ebay about 9 months ago, believe the selling price then was $55,000. I was watching the price of that car pretty closely because i was wanting to know what an non origional color, car would go for. Especially since it didn't get changed from a non popular color to one that is. Like some of the bronze chargers get painted black/orange or other more supposedly appealing colors.
On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

Danny, the seller of the Daytona told me that he bought the car "about six months ago" so that sure sounds like the same car. He's got a lot of cars and is known to resell them so it makes sense that if he actually did get it for $55,000 that he's reselling it for $65,000. Mal, do I see a Charger 500 leaving L.A. and heading for OzLand???

Danny that black daytona happens to show no fender tag in the under hood picture. The owner in the 77 time period was ed Mohler Corana CA. And around 78 79 Don Hicks had a similar car ??The silver daytona from NM had something up with it not sure .But maybe not a credible vin or something I heard about. And Dave P had bought cars from A Morris .Did you ever see the hurting daytonas on back pages of mopar muscle. In the PCG advertisements those were some of them

Ok, he's a photo from many years ago, 1978?? Upstate NY. The car belongs to Mike Russo, and that's my buddy Rick. Mike let Rick drive, who took it for a FAST ride. "At 98, you back off the pedal for a moment, then floor it, all 8 barrles kick in"

No, it was definately not Art. At that time, I think all Art had was a red Daytona. The Petty Blue Bird we bought was farther south from Indy as I recall. I have the name at the club office in a file. What I remember most was that it was the guy's pride and joy - even as a well used rusty Bird. We all went into town to have the title notarized or something. And as we drove away leaving town, I can still see the guy watching as his car drove out of sight. Broke his heart, at least for a while. I think we paid $1900 for the car.

The other one was the Jeff Phillips customized popular cars magazine car a 440 chromed out with a hemi.
Dave, Is this the same one Joe Gerdelmann owned? He has the chromed out Hemi with the black stripe. He's in Jersey still, right?
Dave is correct. It's not Gerdelmann's car. The Jeff Phillips "bullet hole Daytona" was sold to him by my father in the winter of 1977-78. Dad bought the car in October '77. That was was a real POS, and Phillips did wonders with it. It looks ten times better in the pic I've posted compared to how bad it really was. Give the pic some time to load.
The story how we wound up with it is lengthly but worth it.
Dad gets a call from this guy in Pontiac Michigan (north of Detroit), about a Daytona he wants to sell quick. Asking price is somewhere around $2600. So Dad decides to fly in to buy it and drive it home. By the way, the guy mentions that he absolutely, positively HAS to sell the car. So Dad flys in and the guy pics him up. They go to look at the car and it is just a heap. Tons of bondo, a 383 leaking oil faster than the Exxon Valdez under the hood, back seat covered with black "fun fur". Some kind of vinyl top that's been removed and the rust painted over gloss black. A snow tire on the right front corner. It has the rear bumper delete option, but as a plus, it had a nice nose and came with a complimentary 8-track of Fleetwood Mac Rumours You get the picture. Best of all, is a bullet hole between the two indent scoops on the drivers door. And the guy WILL NOT explain it. So, anyway - dad turns it down. Doesn't want the car. It's too rough. He says, "Take me back to the airport". So they stop at a McDonalds on the way. And the guy makes one final appeal to my dad, "Hey, look. I have got to sell this car now". So dad, figuring the only good thing is the nose assembly, offers him $1100 and the guy takes it.
So now, dad has got to get this pile of crap home. It's late afternoon. Dad gets gas, checks the oil, and the whole dipstick tube comes out with the stick. An omen of things to come.
He gets on the road heading south through Detroit to I-94. and as it gets dark, he hits the lights - they don't pop up. He reaches into the map pockets and finds two rubber door stop wedges. "Guess I know what these are for." So in go the door stops and the lights are on. Now the car is not charging. He makes his way on 94 west heading for Ann Arbor, and the battery is just about done. He coasts into a gas station and they say they'll look at it in the AM, and that there is a Ramada Inn across the street. He's elated.
So he makes his way to the Ramada Inn - and it hits him. That it's the same Ramada Inn we had our national meet at the previous June. Imagine 77 aero cars at a hotel where the A/C doesn't work, the pool is green, and it's 95 degrees. Can you say wash cars with hotel towels? Sure you can. By the way the pool still wasn't working the second time around.
In the morning, the garage has got the car up and running, and dad had a trouble free journey back to Milwaukee.
We never knew the real story on the bullet hole. The car is an original A4 silver Daytona, 440 auto. XX29L9B386539.
So there you have it.
