I have been shopping for another A-body to go with my 69' 340 GTS, I want a 70' Swinger 340 to restore. Since I am going to sink more money in it then it's worth I want the stamped body VINs to match the dash and fender tag VIN. I have contact 2 different owners of 1970 340 Swingers that I am very interested in, but on both cars I asked the owner to locate the body VINs and both cars don't have any VIN stamped on the radiator support. One car has the original paint with no body work and he couldn't find a VIN on the trunk lip also, the other has had work done once and the owner didn't want to peel the trunk seal off. Both the owners own other Mopars and know where to look, was there a different location on 1970 A Bodies for the stamped body VIN?

It's not in the same place as B bodies.

Need to look on the pass side trunk rail about where the buttstripe would cross.

Here's where it is on my 70 Swinger 340 car, right where the sharpie is located.

I had an FY1 4speed 70 swinger 340 and it had the
trunk rail number stamped on BOTH the driver and passenger side .

Different plants stamped them in different places, I believe the passenger trunk rail was a WINDSOR "R" thing.

Mostly the owners do not want to rip up the weatherstrip in the trunk or scrape off the antifreeze sticker on the core support. Either way you usually have to scape off paint too!

Thanks for the replys! The owner of the original paint car found the VIN on the passenger side! Looks like I am buying a car today.

No VIN's just SO numbers that match the bottom right numbers on the fender tag. If you do not have a tag you are SOL.
