Need them for a 489 case. Did a search and came up empty.
Seems like I read that somebody makes a stronger cap.
What's the best to make this area stronger? Don't want to break again.
Thanks

Just out of curiosity... Do you need to get the new caps line bored/honed like you would new main caps on an engine?
Just milled to line up the threads for the adjuster

i did the mark williams main caps in my 8/ 3/4". had to have the machine shop machine them, instructions come with them. still broke it again....I now have a dana,no more breakage. The 8 3/4 was maxed out, markwilliams caps...moser spool, axles, yoke(billet),back brace everything you can do!!! Iknow this has been repeated a million times on here, but i will say it...dont waste your time and money on the 8 3/4,go on and get a dana
As long as the car is above 3100 lbs with driver and it makes 450 HP + and hooks good I have raced cars with 8 3/4 for years and I have broke a lot of 8 3/4 parts as well as watch freinds of mine break 8 3/4, switch now before spending any more money and wasting it trying to prevent the 8 3/4 from breaking parts

Ya, stay away from those 8 3/4`s cos they just don`t live in med to heavy cars w/any kind of power..... There`s guys on here WAY faster than me runnin em w/great success. I must be lucky or not have enuff power to break mine with that said, my next rear will likely be a dana 60.

Car is a 72 Dart. 3500 lbs race ready. Runs 7.60s in 1/8th and 12.1 in 1/4. I should point out that I have been running this gear for 22 years, the first 2 years were behind a 4 speed. A Dana is probably not possible right now.

I just did the pass. side per their recommendations. And all the other little tricks. If it pukes , I will step up. But I was throwing money at it before I realized that it might be a problem , and now I am what we in the industry call " pot committed ". There is a steep learning curve with these MoPars , but I'm learning. I'm not a purist........it will be a 9" if and when. As far as milling the cap to fit , that was easy enough. I think we had to shave .017 per side to make it right.

The left side(drivers side) is the one that breaks first, the pinion gear is trying to force the front of the ring gear away from the center of the pinion I have seen more left side caps break than both sides at the same time

hey,I loved my 8 3/4.... i thought it would live but i broke it 6 times, and 4 of those it broke the tranny too!!! thats 1000-1500 dollars a pop to fix it every time dana was 2300 brand new its alot of money, but now i dont fix it any more i think its a heavy car problem i am at 3280 lbs ,and right at 500 horse, and the 8 3/4 was good for about 300 passes before explosion I think if you are under 3000 lbs and smallblock it would live
Now I need to fish for an opinion. I could sell mine...........she's a virgin. I will be near 3,200 lbs and 600 h.p. Foot braked with 3.91's , a low gear 904 and 28.5 X 10.5 " drag radials. Should I just save myself the pain and dump it ? It will be street driven. 742 case , spool , Moser axles , back brace , billet yoke and 1350 joints. It is a nice piece and I'd hate to wreck it and get .7 1/2 a pound for what's left.
oh , yea.......billet cap.

I am thinking of selling it befor it goes and building a 9" what do ya think it might be worth. its all brand new with motive 3.91's
