Well guys it time for some new slicks and I'm up in the air on which size to get this time. Right now I run 28/10.5 m/t slicks and car 60' is in the the 1.60 range up and down in that area. This is with 4.57 gears. Now my ?? Is I want to go to a 5.13. Gear that I have already set up and a 29 tall tire but don't want to hurt myself by not having enough tire. Would I still be in the same range rpm wise I know a few hundred more want hurt me cause I trap at about 6200 with it now. Car is a 70 duster 340/11.1 comp/jheads cleaned up cam right now is xs2824 comp 520/540 lift with 1.5 rollers/ 727 with 8" 5600 verta . Car has been 7.44 with a 1.64 60' would like to put the comp 306 mag 555/555 back init with the verta that's in it now. Looking. A little better time and 60'

What you have to look at with gears is the powerband. Think about this the 5.13 gear means that the driveshaft will turn 51.3 times for every 10 revolutions of the ring gear. So really you are just turning the motor harder not the tires. If your peak power is at 5500rpm or so then more gears will not help. What does your converter flash too?

well with a 29.5 slick and 5.13 gears look at trapping 6600 and if you gain some performance 6700 to 6800.

I would advance the cam you have now to 104 or 103 and you should see a significant improvement.

If you install the bigger cam try it at 102 right off the bat!

That's what I did adv the 1 in it now 4 degrees . I put it in with the wheel at first but didn't use it to adv. Just moved it with the key way and no increase what so ever really lost cause car went 7.44 before now only 50's also I plan to put the 306 in at 102. If I got back to it 6600 not. A problem use to turn 7500 but looking for the most power now to max out this little thing before the new build start

There should be some in a bigger cam degreed right.
more gear always helps if you are not afraid of rpms.
you may be fighting the flow on your heads as a big limiting factor so maybe a set of aluminum CNC'd are in order (plus they take 50 lb off the front end!!!)

Hay guys I would like someone to give me a good run down to degree please. I know this may sound stupid but dunno ask those that do. Now my ? I've always heard I teeth on crank gerar is about 15 degrees is this true? If so how is it the the crank gear suppose to be 4adv/4ret and its way around the gear the reason I ask is 1 to learn and 2 understand how it works. When I installed my cam the first time I did degree it. Came out at 105.5. .5 short so nothing to cry abouyt then I went back in later and moved it to the adv spot on the gear and did not degree it (I know I should have but fig. 4 degree is 4 degree) but now I'm thinking its way off and will go in and check it this coming week. Sorry to sound dumb but looking to learn something here.thanks mike don't for this guys

the +4 and -4 keyways are all good but you can still mess up the total with a tooth out
http://www.stockcarracing.com/techarticles/scrp_0607_how_to_degree_a_camshaft/index.html

http://www.carcraft.com/howto/116_0701_how_to_degree_a_camshaft/index.html

I cheat if I'm doing in car especially with my gear drive as it has the 7 positions x 2 so if you move it to x it should do x. But since you do not move the dizzy if you had 38 total and you put it in a + 4 spot you should get 42 total. if not I messed up!
