Went to Martin sat., and the car just layed over at about 300ft., so I coasted to the end. Got checking things, and had no compression in #3, and #5. Thought it was a blown gasket, and yes it was that and then some. Looks like I need a block, and a head. Guess I'm done for the year.

416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out.
11.06 open headers----so far!!

I had the same thing happen to me a couple years ago. Replaced the block and had the head repaired and got back to racing.

I've seen a lot of Max Wedge cars do this with to much ignition lead. Running a lot of timing band aided the poor chamber design. End result is what you see. I personally haven't seen this condition on a small block.

The head is no problem at all and the block can be welded with nickel rod. The guy that fixed mine welded it up in the car after I wrapped keo wool in the cylinders and laid fire proof fiberglass cloth on the deck surface. He said he would charge me 100.00 for both the head and block but wanted to know how I would surface the block after welding it up. I told him you could carefully file it down taking your time and get it with in .004 and the gasket would seal. The next day he called and not only was it welded he said he had to try filing it down by hand. It was under .003 across the weld and he was very happy. He ended up charging me 80.00 because he said he learned something. Burnt it up on a Sunday, ready to go again on Thursday thanks to his ability. I still have the block if you need pictures of this 440 block I still have it and it never blew a head gasket again.

From what my engine guy said is it's common to blow the head gasket between 3 @ 5, 4 @6. With all the heat this summer, I thought the drop in et. was due to weather [.15-.2]. It must have burned between the cyl.very quickly, when I grabbed 2nd gear, I could feel it way down on power, and coasted the rest of the 1/8th.

No juice, At the Nittro Jam at Martin a couple weeks ago. Best it ran this year was 11.12 @118, and when the hot summer hit, was running 11.24 to 11.28. I think it happened when warming the car up sat. wound it up in 2nd, and grabbed 3rd, and it just acted funny, like it loaded up. I thought something was wiered, but couldn't put my finger on it. Was idleing different, then when I did the burn box, was under powered. Launched from the line, and it just laid down.I have been on barrowed time with the motor. It was build in 06, and not freshened. I guess a set of fresh head gaskets might of prevented this..Matt... I believe the gaskets were the felpro 1008

I run vp 110 straight, and about 32 to 33* of timing.

I would try to find someone to weld it and then just deck it to make it flat.
