I'm seriously thinking of putting in the new MP 6.1 crate kit. Anybody here who has done this conversion that can give tips/hints?

My specific application is; '71 Road Runner, Keisler 5spd., 8 3/4 rear, AlterKtion front suspension and rear coil over AirRide setup, 4-wheel disc brakes w/Hydroboost.

Here is other conversation on this topic;

Thanks!!!

Steve, Thinking of going this route;

6.1 Hemi crate engines - P5155067

If I am going to pull the trigger on this, it will be the EFI version. More exactly, this MP kit. I wanted to throw this on the Q&A to see if anyone has more feedback.

the write up that 808 did should be able to cover most if not all the questions. witht he gearbox choice the injection is fairly easy. no kickdown linkage to worry about.

let me know if you need any thing else answered..

fasbird,
I am doing the exact same project as we speak. 6.1 in 71' runner.
I am watching and reading the same posts you are. My last question is in regards to the throttle body. I still have the electronic, but am interested in the cable operated so that I may use the factory cruise control. I will probably use an external fuel pump on the rail.

That sounds cool Hemibeep.
This is the number that was given of the throttle body that comes on the engine.

P5153689.... Throttle body

From what I gather, the installer has to have a custom cable made. Anyone out there have a source for this cable? I have also decided on using the TTI headers.

Here is another source for conversion parts. I will be calling to see what a fuel tank system and radiator setup will run me. I'll pass on any info I get. I will also be documenting this install like 808 did for his Cuda'.

I believe lokar makes a throttle cable bracket. Also, Mancini used to sell cut to length throttle cables(worked great on another project). they may also be from lokar.

I am thinking about stepping up on the cam, based on how mellow 808 said his motor sounded.

Yep, if you really want to get an aggressive exhaust note at idle, you will need to get a cam with a tighter LSA. I did not want to change any of the OE driveability aspect at this time, so I left it stock. Besides, it makes plenty for the missus
Left stock it would make a great sleeper in an A-body. Sounds like a 318 with ana exhaust

808cuda,

Awesome post about your install. I see your last post on the install was nov/07. Any new info you can share. What was your approximate cost of the radiator setup. Sure looks nice. I made my purchase yesterday. Got the 6.1 MP kit and TTI's for the exhaust. I will have to order the bellhousing/clutch/flywheel setup today from Keisler.

Any other feedback or tips would be great. Thanks for the informative post. Now, all I have to do is figure out which way to go with the oil pan dynamics.

Any update on you hooking up the A/C yet?

Thanks!

Thanks Dave.

OK guys, how about specific part/part number, or manufacturer recommendations for aluminum radiators, shrouds, electric fan modules, fuel tanks, pumps (whether to mount the fuel pump internally or externally), rear sump oil pan and pickup, etc., etc.

Hi Guys

We have just finished making a pan for aftermarket suspensions such as the Alterktion, XV (We made their original pans) and Magnumforce. We also have a version for ones with a stroker crank like in the 426 version. They feature the same one piece flange and G machine baffle.

Price is $395.00 with pickup and $425.00 for the stroker mod. I will get a photo or 2 soon.

Fasbird, sorry for the late post reply.

The radiator costed $1200 (rad/custom fan/shroud/wiring/sensorkit).

I have to update my post. Ever since I got her running, cannot stop my self to finish the finer details such as hiding some loose wiring, plumbing the a/c lines, etc.
The car is so much fun to drive!

I was just out with some friend's last night and had a blast with the car. Everybody with an ole skool engine was having small issues like, leaking valve cover, overheating at idle, charging problems... so nice to be able to just buzz along worry free

you can check the radiator out at rondavisradiators.com

If you need anything else, let me know

Gil

This is a pic of the 5.7 in my dart we did last year. I just finished the change over to a 6.1L. I put a Tomahawk cam it it as well as a 5 angle valve job. Runs like a raped ape. Very happy with it.

chargerdude,
Where do you find a tomahawk cam?
And are they pricey like the comp cam at $400.?

I am having heads touched up, and the head guy says "cam up", as the 6.1 heads look really well designed!! Just a little work in the exhaust port and a 5 angle valve job.

Do you have any power numbers/improvement #s for the tomahawk compared to stock cam?
