Bought some super stock springs for our 70 roadrunner, wanted to get them on before the Milan race this next weekend, Talk about a FUBAR ...
long story short we finally get the SS springs mounted at the front and back, then we are looking at the peg that goes under the rear end, its 2 inches to the inside of the car, and an inch or more too far forward to line up... the stock spring is still hooked up on the passenger side, so its not that the rear end moved around... after beating the frame to make endentations to allow room for the rear shackle, and snapping off two bolts on that same shackle... sitting there looking at how the firetruck we are gonna get this spring on, did we put the wrong one on? NO, is it backwards? NO, are we dumb??? probably. we decided, firetruck it... we are gonna just put the stock spring back on, so we get the front brace in place, (btw we snapped a bolt off that while taking it off), but we got that back in place and then couldnt get the rear on the shackle, finally we figured out how, but it isnt lined up either and its making no sense to us at all.
anyone got a heads up on this?
this was gonna be the last race of the year for the car, and the lesson we learned is... dont change things til you KNOW youre done for the year.

I just put them both on at the same time. Removed the old ones and set the rear end down on the new. Sure you got the right front hangers?
i already said we might be dumb... that makes a lot of sense and will do it tomorrow. THANKS

SS springs are something like 2" shorter than stock on the front section which require a longer front hanger. It sounds like you are trying to bolt the springs to the stock hangers.
We have the long front hangers.I bought everything as a package.

Dude.. if you think you have to BEAT something to get it on.....its time to take a step back and chill out, get a fresh look at it later. Dont destroy your stuff, you will regret it later.
That is just what we did, will try again today.

no frame modification was needed, I thought about taking pictures, but we walked away from it. the hangers, (rear shackles)are exactly the same in every demension. but when we put it up in its place, the rear of the springs wont slide on the bottom of it, (the width of the spring puts it into where the frame is... when we bend the hanger to fit the spring, now the piece that we screw on the other side wont go on because one bolt is too low... once we get everything up and in place front and rear, we sit there and look at the spring and there is NO way we are getting the peg into the hole on the rear end... so we sit there and scratch our heads a little... just didnt make much sense to us, but an earlier post on here makes perfect sense and as soon as I read it, it was a light going off, was planning on doing it today, but decided to put it off til tomorrow when we have more time. worse comes to worse, dad races his pickup and not the road runner at milan, or he watches me race. this was the last planned race for the car before we do somethings to it over the winter... we just thought, lets do one thing real quick. dad or i will post when we get this done. if i can figure out how to charge my camcorder, (also digital camera), i'll have pics too. thanks everyone.

cant sleep, so i'll chime in.
Get up to the hanger, get to work, just as suggested, drop the dana down and attach everything at once on both sieds, we kept the U bolts on the axels loose, put the front brace in its hole, then like magic, (to us), everything lined up. bolts were coming off easy, everything was going as planned.
I broke away to get some dinner, (grill some brats), standing in line i realized i didnt have my car keys on me. walk out to the car and sure enough, I locked them inside the car... Firetruck. OK I'll just call dad and he'll come on down, yeah, my cell was in the car also... FIRETRUCK. the security guard is trying to help me witha slim jim, hes just pulling on the door handle... keeps telling me i need a wedge to get into the door jam... (I wanted to say LOOK AROUND DO I HAVE A WEDGE???) but i wanted to use his slim jim so i just said, YEAH that would be great...
walk in the store ask to use phone, call dad, he comes down to the store, gets the slim jim, literally pushes it down, pulls it up and BAM doors unlocked.
go back to the RR and everything is lined up but the springs are too far out and wont go to the hangers in the back, we get a come a long, viola, its on the hangers, we are excited, the back cover goes on the hanger, we are fist pumping each other... (seriously yesterday was a bad time) we get it all lined up, all hooked up and decide to call it a night, (I have an exam wednesday I should have been studing for, and an essay to write, due wednesday) anyhow... we are all done and i get into my car, and start driving home, I get not even 3 miles from the hanger and the car is making noises, clunk clunk, rattle... and there is no power, Check guages light comes on, (which when I saw it could have sworn it said, check wallet)... car quits and I coast to a side road... call dad, he tows me to his place, and i get to drive his durango now...
blow up a 1992 New Yorker, get a 1999 Durango, not bad upgrade...
but the Roadrunner fought us tonight, but we won, my new yorker fought me and slapped the .... out of me.
pics to come tomorrow, (of the cop that sat with me til dad showed...) and the springs we put in.
Night all

I agree sounds like you have the wrong hangers if it took that much to get them in.I installed the SS springs in my 65.They bolted right up.Just the MP hangers are bad.I ordered a set of Mancini hangers. The MP pieces for the front have the studs located wrong and are the wrong length for a 65 as it has a 21 inch front segment.Rocky

Thats good I'm all set for this weekend... all loaded up.... I was going to change the IC on the 4 link but decided not too cause and you will need to be running in the 9s for your license and I'm not sure how it would act... I think you can tolerate the minor hop with the throttle stop. ... also might have to do some jet work with the added fuel on idle

You have the car set up like it was at 131? this time we get to play with the box some... Got a game plan about scrubbing a tenth off in qualifying? (I got ideas).
Friday night we are having a hobo dinner, if that sounds good to you, you are welcome to it. (we were planning on sharing).
