I got a buddy looking at a 2000 dakota with 160,000 miles with the 4.7 engine. The exhaust manifold gaskets are leaking and need changed.

I have heard the manifold bolts will break on these when they are removed.

Anyone heard of this?

Any input or opinions on this motor would be appreciated.

Thanks,

All I can say is I have a 4.7 with 138K in my 02 quad cab and it runs like a champ.Great engine IMHO.

my exhaust is leaking too with 135K, nice loud TIC.TIC.TIC. looks like a pain to fix, might want to get a quote for the job, other than that it has been a good motor.

I had to replace the drivers side gasket on Mine @ 103,000.
Heat the bolts up with a torch and they will come out easier. I didn't do that to mine and i broke two or three. then you'll have to drill and use an easy-out. The other problem is that at that mileage the nuts have rusted and are no longer a standard size. try and fine the closest size socket and tap it on with a mallet, or use vise grips( that really tears up the nuts).

My 2000 4.7 just turned over 142K and I was getting a new muffler n tailpipe and the garage said mine is leaking on pass. side...2-3 hrs for $200. Looks mighty scary to do it on a weekend.
