You're making me nervous. What did you do to the red area?

How many CCs did you gain and why? Also how much deck thickness is remaining in the quench area?

nothing is done to the quench area, with the exception of radiusing the sharp (near 90*)edge that shrouds the edge of the valves. there isnt realy that much material removed as some pics make it look. I havent cc'd them.. I'm not woried about gaining a couple ccs. It will only be about 10.7 to 1 @ 493 cubes, I think a smooth efficent flow will be more benneficial with the SR, than a bit more compression and a disruptive edge.

I think the lighting is making it look more drastic than it is... if you look at the last photo, and look at the chamber farthest from the cam... you get the best angle at the radius i was trying to copy from the cnc heads I've seen. Any marks on the quench section (in red) is just some scrub from the sand paper i used to smooth the radius up good. Also if you look close at that same photo you can still see the original casting pits in the aluminum in a coulpe of the chambers, some of wich are very close to the radius I made. that should be a good reference to the amount of material removed. If I took enough material out to make them too thin they must be a pretty cheap casting.

That area must be absolutely flush with the gasket surface.

Thanks Bob, they will be dished pistons. wouldnt having a nice smooth radius everywhere help the flame travel in the combustion chamber. I know that is why radiusing a dome piston is advantageous, aswell as avoiding hot spots.
I agree that any sharp edge should be remove to prevent the chance of a thin area burn,we slightly dress these edges. Now that you have explained your combo in more detail I understand your reasoning. We usually try and maintain equal chambers and keep the CCs to the small side for compression. My thoughts were for race mainly. Now I understand your logic for a duralable street application also and sacrificing a few race advantages was not a concern. The photos were decieving and looked like a lot of material was removed.

hahah, I definnately didnt use a wire brush. I may be a HICK but I'm not that bad. all that scratching is actually imperceptable to your finger, the flash on the camera made them shine like hell, and look fairly deep. all they are is where the free edge of my sand paper touched on it. and there really isnt much material gone of the radius. Maybe today I'll take them out side and get some natural light on them, and see if they look right. I wonder if I had my cam set up for too fine a shot? digital cams seem to be picky with shine.

Thanks again Bob, It will be be in a race application...but just a fun bracket car, probly in the 10.70s at near 3800 lbs. I just dont want to buy race fuel anymore, and want a good powerful combo that isnt real picky. I may rig up a cc kit just to check them against each other, then adjust them from there. I'm also wondering if the old gasket ring mark will cause a problem, I may get them cleaned up with the mill just to be safe. [/quote
The groove from the stainless firering will always appear on the head,as long as your gasket is located the same it will seal, cut the head will remove it but it will come back. The other choise is to use a soft copper gasket or a MLS gasket. Most copper gasket require o-ringing the head and reciever grooves but some have been used without successfully.
