Could someone explain the difference between these two? I am ordering an oil pressure guage from Summit and want to get a stainless line. They come in various lengths, but I have no idea weather to get a -4AN or -3AN.

Just 2 different sizes... #4 is bigger of course, 1/4" it should be (believe AN = 1/16", or -16 AN is 1" id. from memory..)

Should just check and see what size fitting is on the back of the gauge...and don't forget the AN to pipe thread adaptor for the engine side

Thanks for the quick response Oz. So, will either one work? I don't have the guage yet, so have no idea the fitting size.

I printed out the lower half of this page and use it as a cheat sheet.

If you are getting the line premaid, really would be good to know what the gauge uses, to save you needing an adaptor.. the adaptor into the block will just be 1/8 NPT (or what ever it is) to the -AN size line you bought

PS... the Autometer used to have a fitting on the back to suit the compression fitting (like with the plastic line) and you needed to run either thier braided line, or a AN fitting adaptor of what ever dash-size you where using...from memory though I think Autometer went to a direct -AN fitting on the back of the gauge not sure off hand if it's -3 or -4

Actually, I'm getting a cheapo Summit guage.....
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM-G2934

and was looking at these pre-made lines......

http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch....k=KeywordSearch

There is no info as to what size fitting is in the guage.

I used -4 for the oil pressure gauge line in my Charger..works prefectly fine.
Have to ask Summit what sort of fitting thier gauge has I suppose

Well, I called Summit and the guy went and measured the fitting and said it was 3/8" wide, so should take a -6AN.
They don't even list that size in their selection for guage lines. I'm just going to order the -4AN and see what happens.

Funny thing is, I asked him if he was sure it is that size, and he politely informed me he was a carpenter before he worked for Summit.

the -3 fitting has a 3/8 x 24 thread on it. i assume thats what he meant. -4 will have a 7/16x20 thread.
