Want to get this turbo car it is totally trick but he says it has low oil pressure,he says the rear main is leaking, would that cause low o/p?
any other ideas that could cause low pressure in 2.2/2.5 turbos? new to the turbo game messed with /6, small/big blocks before.I see the parts are cheap o/p,screen etc. just want ideas before I buy and it is a nightmare, you know?

Rear main seal leak won't cause low oil pressure. Worn out bearings will. How low is the pressure? Adding a turbo makes no difference on the basics of an engine.
Low Oil Pressure is caused by the same things no matter 4-6-8 cylinder engine.

Could also be a bad sending unit, seen that before. Unplug the harness from the sender and look down inside the sender. If you see oil the sender is shot. Front of the motor, can't miss it

I will check it out for myself this weekend bringing a gauge to check it, a turbo mopar site I have been reading says 7-10 psi per 1,000 rpm. Also says if the balance shafts were removed you have to plug the oil feed or low o/p will result. he says the engine is all built o ringed high volume pump studded etc,so I am confused how this built engine has low o/p?? seen pix its built ported head 3in exhaust etc, think it might have been over reved and that might have killed something?? hopefully get more answers this weekend!! thanks ya'll...

If he overboosted it and rattled the engine it will hammer the rod bearings and you will have low oil pressure as your first symptom, BTDT. Followed by a rod knock.

Don't trust the factory gauge, the senders are unreliable.

If the rod bearings are shot the engine will make all sorts of racket but could still have good oil pressure!

The main areas of oil pressure loss are the distributor shaft outer bearing being shot, oil pump gear stripped, wrong cam (oversize journal head with a standard size cam) and as someone else mentioned, failure to plug oil gallery if balance shafts were removed.

I said HAMMERED the rod bearing, not "shot" BTDT.

26 psi of boost with no extra fuel hammered.

When I mean "shot" I mean "pealed right out of the rod"

paper thin and six inches wide? BTDT, learned a lesson, ALWAYS make sure you remember to hook up the wastegate vacuum line

What is considered "low oil pressure". My 1984 Shop Manual for 2.2 engine states the the "oil pressure switch mininum actuating pressure" is 2 psi.

So at anything over 2 psi the idiot light (if equiped) would be out and the engine would have sufficent oiling?

2 psi is the same for a turbo, EFI, and N/A engine.
