I've got some nice chrome bumpers and because I was running pretty rich for awhile I've also got some nice carbon deposits on said bumpers. Regular car soap didn't really do much...would bug and tar remover work?

What he said - or BonAmi if you can find it . . . years ago, when I was at the chrome shop, the old guy there showed me how he made a "paste" of the stuff with a bit of water . . .he would wipe down the bumper, let it all dry to a haze, and then wipe it all off . . .man, it took ALL the crap and anything stuck to the chrome, right off ! Looked like brand new !! . . . so, there is an "old timers" tip for you !

Cheers

Mark

Gotta disagree. ANY abrasive has no business anywhere NEAR a "set of nice chrome bumpers" (the OP's words).
Any abrasive WILL scratch it to some degree.
Now if its already scratched/dull/pitted etc it may be a different story, but nice chrome should only be cleaned and waxed (and with a NON-abrasive wax!!!)

I've been using it ( bar keepers friend) for 14 years on the glass, chrome, trim and light lenses without any scratches... i did say extremely mild, and meant it!

I agree. Been using it for years...you just have to use a little common sense.
