The two Hemi cars that we drove up from San Antonio, Texas. The GTX is nicely optioned, the `Cuda even more so... The 3.54 geared GTX averaged over 14 MPG on the trip, while the 4.10 geared `Cuda was a bit more thirsty. If anyone is getting tired of seeing these two cars... get other early Mopar Nats participants to ante up more pics... The GTX & `Cuda parked at the Holiday Inn headquarters hotel...

St Louis 1982... again... How about a 1967 Hemi GTX convertible...
And another 1967 Hemi GTX convertible with the same "GTX" license plates leaving the parking lot. Note the 1968 style round marker lights on this one...

Is that luggage rack factory?
This tread is great. The way you guys drove these awesome car from so far is really cool. Hemi cars in parking lots, most likely through the night.
I first remember seeing that type of luggage rack on 1968 or 1969 Chargers... how about the side markers, whats up with those?... chime in 1967 experts...
On the way to St Louis we spent the night in Searcy, Arkansas at a small old motel run by a nice pair of elderly ladies. The old motel was "run-down" looking, but kept clean by the ladies. I remember the wall mounted "window" A/C unit did not have a front cover, but blasted cold air from the large rectangular opening. We had just driven until we were tired, so without reservations at 10 or 11 at night we had to take what we could get. The area around the motel was a bit seedy looking, and we tried to get some sleep with the two Hemis just outside the door... lotsa get-ups to check on the two unprotected cars.
St Louis 1982 - Anyone remember this 1971 `Cuda?

I remember that car and have several pictures of it from the mid-80's Mopar Nats. There was another red 67 GTX Hardtop that had the 68 marker lights on it, it was a 440 car I believe both were dealer installed at the owner preference. It must have been a bit of a trend when the 68 models came out, the original owner of my 65 Sport Fury almost had them installed on the car when the 68's came out, He thought it would make it safer, ended up never getting it done though.

You are probably correct about it just being an owner requested add-on... Mopar probably even had kits for it.
I was also thinking it might have been exported after originally being a US Spec car, and that the side markers had to be added. I remember a wild story in the NHOA newsletter about importing an old Mopar into Germany in the mid to late 1980s. To get the car through German Customs, the owner had to add a lot of stuff that he later removed when the car was released by the customs agents.

Here is the NHOA article that I was recalling... its a great read! It is sized for printing too...

HI All, This is such a cool thread. It is really great to see the cars from back in the day. My 69.5 Runner was in the earlier shots with Floyd's Challenger. I was a young man of 20 in those days, and now I am an old fart and still chasing Mopars?? Thanks for posting all of the cool shots. Just took a look tonight, and the first 67 X ragtop is from Wisconsin, and is a 440-4speed car, that is still owned by the same guy. Very nice car. Bronze with white interior. Hasn't seen daylight in many years however. Thanks for all the great pictures Allen and all. If I get some time I will rummage around and see if I have any to add. Thanks Chris
Two years for you to go Chris... you aren't officially an "old fart" until you get that dreaded invitation to join from the AARP...
Here is the pic of "Floyd" following Chris into the hotel parking lot...
