1982 St Louis... 1968 Hemi GTX

That's Steve's "pacifica" former '70 440 4-spd "deep burnt orange metallic" GTX & Dan's "sixpaktoogo" former '68 HEMI 4-spd "electric blue metallic" GTX.

Here is my attempt to return "sixpacktogo"'s Hemi GTX to blue...

St Louis 1982 - And it looks like I have found pacifica's 1970 GTX... still next to sixpacktogo's electric gre.... errr... electric blue GTX.

In 2003 when I sold it after 13 years. Had 19,335 miles on it, still had the numbers matching drivetrain when I bought it set aside, had a spun bearing. The car went through an auction is the last few years. The bad part is there wasnt any documenttion for the car. It was raced early in it's life. No fendertag, no broadcast sheet. I seen it for sale with a lot of stuff that shouldnt have been on it and I know how it should be.

It sure has changed looks frequently back then... would not know it was the same car if you had not told us. It's great to piece together a car's history, whether the facts are good or less so...

Found another picture with pacifica's & sixpacktogo's cars... and again the 440+6 RR... did y'all know those guys?

This picture seems to retain the original colors more or less... no color changes made.

I just found the first two rolls of film negatives from the 1982 CCCC in St Louis... only need to find 15 or so more! I plan to wait until most of the negatives are found before making new prints... and I am not sure of the condition of the negatives. The new prints may not be any better than the old ones...

Here is a positive image of one of the sets of negatives...

In 1982 the national meet now known as the Mopar Nationals was held in St Louis. But for the first two years the event was called the Chrysler Car Club Convention (CCCC), but was changed to Mopar Nationals in 1983...

The meet was held at a Holiday Inn and out at Mid-America Raceway, IIRC the Holiday Inn was on the northwest side of St Louis... maybe someone else has a definite location handy.

I have located the negatives from seven rolls of film so far, including a second roll of racing action. Also, for the guy requesting an individual pic of the early G-series "recreation", found one so far... I believe there may be another one or two.

The second racing roll positive image:

Its gone pretty much. Most of it is torn down and being replaced with a subdivision. Want to say 2004-2005ish was the last year it was actually open.

Thanks, I did not recall that. If anyone watching this thread recognizes one of the pictured cars, and knows its history or what became of it in the 28 years since the St Louis (or other early Mopar Nats) meet, please chime in and let us know. No need to give specific owner info if you do not want to, but general info about the car and what city or state it lives on in...

The B5 Blue 4 Speed 1969 Hemi GTX that I drove up from San Antonio, Texas parked with the 1971 Hemi `Cuda owned by then NHOA National Director Kevin Kellerher (sp?).

About a year earlier IIRC, Kevin's Hemi `Cuda and a FM3 pink 440 1970 GTX that I owned were the cars used to develop the first two Mopar musclecar models that Monogram had made in a long time... The 1970 GTX design was contracted out to the Ed Deitz Design studio in Houston, and Mr Deitz went to a car show in Houston (AutoRama ?) to find a 1970 GTX. No GTXs were there, but a hometown friend had his 1970 Road Runner in the show. They discussed the differences between a 1970 Road Runner & GTX, and Mr Deitz decided he really needed to find a GTX. My friend told him about my GTX, and he called and set up a time to come see it.

He spent over 2 hours taking pictures and making measurements of the GTX. We talked extensively about the 1970 GTXs, especially about the various performance options available on it. I gave him a "Rapid Transit System" magazine pull-out showing the various options that I was trying to get him to include in his design. He took extensive measurements of the Air Grabber and other features on the GTX, and I received 25 Monogram model kits for my time (no Mopar kits tho)... a surprise at the end of the session. Later I received a thank you letter and a few other items from the V-P of the Monogram Design Department.

The FM3 GTX is now owned by someone in Oklahoma, and is this car in the registry:

Just a little side trip down memory lane...
