I can't get the rear seats mounted in my 68 Charger. I struggled for months with the bottom seat, and recently figured out a way with wooden blocks and levers to get it in place. I was all good to go - except then I noticed the upper seat back had popped up and it was not longer in place. Gar! I can;t put it back down without removing the lower seat cushion.

Is there a trick to this?

Make sure the backrest is properly located - if it's too low it'll interfere with the seat cushion. Make sure the floor brackets for the cushion aren't mangled, and that the seat frame is OK where it snaps into those brackets. You kind of slide the cushion under the seatback, and then feel for the location where the cushion frame snaps into the floor brackets. I usually end up with my knees against the front of the cushion, and using considerable effort to push it far enough rearward to engage the brackets. Of course, you don't want to trap the seatbelts under the cushion. Once the cushion snaps in, make sure it's seated (bad pun) in the hooks that the brackets have. Sometimes it takes a few tries at it to keep it from popping back up.

I was able to get the seat bottom seated, and properly hooked in to all the clamps. My problem is that having done this the seat BACK popped up about 4 inches. And of course now I can't get it back down without removing the seat bottom again.

I suppose there must have been some clip at the bottom of the seat back that wasn't in place. I was just wondering if there was some easy trick I was missing before I take everything apart again for a second try.

I thought the rear seat back had two bolts through two loops or straps at the bottom that went into brackets on the floor pan kickup.

Seat back has 2 hooks at the top and 2 bolts to secure it to the floorpan. Two oval extensions of the seatback frame secure to the "kicked-up" area of the floor pan. Make sure the upper hooks spot-welded to the upper body panel aren't tweaked out of shape. They should grab the seat frame securely.

Thanks! I had no idea there were supposed to be bolts on the seat back at the bottom. When I bought the car it was just a shell, the interior was sitting in a shop somewhere and it took me nearly a year to track it all down.

I had the same problem with my 68 charger. I ended up using some sheet metal screws to hold the bottom of the back seat so it wouldn't pop up when I installed the bottom cushion.
