Same here, several pump gas 11-12:1 engines we have used those gaskets in. Never had problems, the best one made 781 hp.

Brad, after blowing the Fel Pro 1009 out on the dyno my 527 bracket motor with 12.8 to 1 compression using 108 octane race gas I decided to change the head gaskest out on my 518 pump gas motor when I put the 440-1 heads on it. I had 1009 on the 518 and they look fine after a lot of reuse and abuse, they where squished out into the cylinders a tiny bit so I decided while it was apart to change them. I had sets of Cometics, Mr Gasket MLS, Fel Pro 8517PT, Fel Pro 1009 (Fel Pro 8519PT EDIT)and several sets of SCE Copper gaskets in stock that would haave work on the motor I selected the 8519PT (edited the proper part number) The set I measured has a 4.480 bore across the wrist pin area in the center of the bore, I lost a little bit of compression versus using the 1009 but I didn't want to take a chance of having the 1009 blow out again, regardless of the reasons the 527 and the 518 have bores of 4.375(low deck 518 motor) and 4.380 in the 440 block 527 C.I. motor

What is the compressed thickness of the 8517pt gasket and who makes it? Thanks
Assuming that Jyrki made a typo and he really meant the 8519PT, it's a standard Fel-Pro BBM gasket that's approx. .040" thick and has an advertised volume of 10.9 cc, IIRC.
My reason for considering this gasket is the increased diameter of the fire ring compared to something like an FP 1009 or DG/Corteco race gasket. A 1009 won't work on my 452's 4.380" bore and I have to elongate the dowel pin slots slightly to offset the DG gasket enough to not overhang the chambers on my Stage VIs.

I`m running the marine gasket by fel-pro going on 5 1/2 years..........plenty of clearance around the bore and the stainless fire ring.

No I havn`t...........if it aint broke don`t fix it and I`m not one to tear into my motor just to check things out. It hasn`t been apart since I built it except for a valve spring swap.

There is something to be said for that. How many passes in those 5-1/2 years?
For a race engine, I would consider a tear down this winter if you have a bunch of passes on it. Sometimes preventive maintenance is better than a broken crank, rods, pistons, block, etc. A set of bearings and gaskets is good insurance.

They held up fine with my 11.1:1. Went with them for the very same reason you state - 60 over 440 wouldn't allow the other gasket to work.

Good points Jim I agree 100% I actually have found my self excited to see how everything looks in a new engine after 1 season of hard runs... The weather here is pretty crappy during the winters, cant do much, its easy to get the race car blue's, and loose some enthusiasm, or just plain old case of loss of interest. Thats why I like to work on the project over the winter, make changes, check things out...basically spend some money LOL
Back to the PT gaskets They have a very large bore 4.52-4.53 I recommend these to the Stealth head guys cause of the large bore, they address the chamber issue shortcomings they use to have. They are near .040 thick...maybe .038-.040 No way these are only 10 cc compressed more like 13.5-14 but I would need to do some math to be positive.
