Hello, I have ordered a Detroit Locker Truetracker However I received the standard Ratchet version. Received: http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/ProductsSe...ocker/index.htmOrdered: http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/ProductsSe...etrac/index.htmKeeping in mind that I use my car only on street... I chose the truetracker because it is less harsh and does not have clinking noises and does not wear... It also apply torque gradually to the wheel with most traction. I felt it would also be safer on wet roads. I am wondering now if I should keep this one instead? Is it too agressive for street? In the instruction they claim that it is an imporved "L" version with smoother operation... Need your opinion desperatly! 74 stock body Cuda 410 Stroker 500+ HP & TQ 3:91 gear 727 tranny 91/2 inch Dynamic TC Sreet radial

Whats wrong with the OE suregrips? I like the OE Sure Grip My self, never tore one up, totally rebuild-able, and you can probably find a complete center section for the price of that locker alone.. Probably didnt like my advice..But have thought about returning that one... Im going to go out on a limb here and say that 80%+ of the guys who run limited slips diff in the Mopar World do run the OE stuff, and this is because of more reasons I care to write about... Good Luck

I run the detroit locker in my dana and I can't tell it's in there. I don't experience any of the problems others state. No noise, goes around corners fine and locks solid when I stomp on it.
It's probably what they call a soft locker. I had one in a previous dana. It has a belville type spring washer in the makes it completely quite while still retaining the locker function

I have been running a Detroit Locker in my 63 for over 2 years. It works great for me but it will let the tires chirp sometimes on turns until it unlocks a wheel and it does have some clicking and clunking at times but nothing that bad. I myself love in my street/strip car but some may not if they dont like a bit of noise. Ron

I would definately send it back. A soft locker will definately not operate the same as the one you ordered. Lockers take a certain type driving style and they can be dangerous. For instance I stabbed the throttle once and got sideways and did not really have room to power out of it and then went copletely full lock and slid to a stop. I looked like an A55. The reason is it only engauges the inside tire on overrun and that just helped the car go sideways after I freaked and let off the gas. Also, I would not run a locker unless you have the BEST axles you can buy. That means Mark Williams High Torque axles. The reason is with a locker if you break an axle you will be making an abrupt turn if you are racing........right into the wall.
Send it back.

Just a clarification...a Detroit Locker and a Detroit Truetrac are two seperate products (This may have caused some of the confusion).
If you say Detroit Locker...then you are talking about the ratcheting version. The Truetrac is a limited slip (not a locker).
Mancini description (cut & pasted): Detroit Locker Tru-Tracker Unit - 30 Spline
Yep...it looks like they mislabled that...I personally love lockers....but not on cars that I want to do the twistys in. I even like them on the street....just not for a sports car that I would drive aggresively on the street with. Mostly because of the inside tire driving the car around corners.
Also....I've only used the regular (non-soft) Detroit locker and a lock-right and a no-spin locker. All 3 were noticable.

I am glad to report that the truetrack is absolutly perfect on the street! The feeling is amazing! I don't know how to describe it properly but when you turn a corner you can feel that there is still traction on the inside tire but without trying to rip it appart... Just right!
And yes, it will smoke both tires on demand! I absolutly recommend it!

I drove a detroit locker over 30,000 miles on the street behind 500 cubes and it is fine. Never spun out, never broke anything. So what if it clicks, it's a hot rod, not caddilac fleetwood broughm. Keep the rear tire pressures equalized, don't floor it in the corners, and you will be fine.

My understanding is that all of the detroit lockers these days are the soft locker style. Go with the locker, I ran a tru-trac in the front axle of my jeep for awhile and it was almost worthless. I now run lockers on both ends and I am much more happy. I am just using the drop in lockers so it clicks like the wheel on wheel of fortune when I make tight turns lol. But it will always have power to all four tires. Sorry, I didn't see this was an update post enjoy!
