yes, loose parts ... are you sure it's not in the tire ? Sometimes the spring that holds the shoe to the backing plate will pop off if it's not seated properly, easy to tell that , look at the backing plate and see if the pin for it is missing or not seated flat against the plate.

I had a self adjuster break and fall off inside the drum, and you could hear it when you spun the wheel.
I also just recently had to do a brake job on my Dakota...it's a rear disc set up, but the parking brake is a shoe in hat design...the lining for the parking brake came off, and was making a clicking noise inside the rotor.
lots of things to check that COULD be it...only way to find out for sure is to pull the wheel and drum
