My daughters 2002 Neon has a loose rack & Pinion , I can move the tires slightly side to side without moving the steering wheel. Outer tie rod ends are good .

How hard is it to replace the unit , I have a 4 post lift and a fairly well equipped garage to do this.

Or should I try to change the inner tie rod ends first ?
Does the engine and cradle need to be dropped or can I change it while its still in the car ?

My daughters 03 needed a tie rod. Might be worth checking out before replacing the rack.
