First a little info on our current combo

1973 Cuda 3350 lbs RB 512 c.i. Pro-Comp raised port heads (just gasket matched) 727 solid roller 13.5-1 c.r. Team G intake Holley 950 HP carb (no spacer) Hooker comp headers 1-7/8 (I know too small) TF 727 Dynamic 9.5 converter flashes 5400 (footbrake) 410 Dana Cal-tracks Calvert 90/10 front CE 50/50 rears 10.5X28.5 MT slicks Shift at 6300 go through the traps aprox 6400 The car has been a 10.43@130 148 60ft

I know the 950 is a little on the small size for this combo My buddy lent us his 1250 Dominator w/adapter. (with the option to buy) We installed it yesterday jetted it down to 92s square and ran it in the shop. Naturally its not as responsive as the 950 due to the size difference but it revs freely without any bogs and idles clean It'll be a couple weeks before we can get to the track due to commitments and the hot weather. My question is this... In your opinion should we see a performance increase over the 950? Thanks Randy

No power valves we jetted up 5 sizes when we took them out but jetted down to 85's when the hot weather came in mid 90's humidity was 70% 100 ft above sea level Plugs read good... Oh and the timing was locked at 35 Hope that helps...

I run a 950 on my 499 in my Challenger and have tried a 1050 4500 a couple of times before. I have always ran slower with the 4500 but I have my 950 dialed in pretty well so you may experience something else.

Randy,

I am running a very similar combo. I have 440-1 heads, a comp .690 roller and 13.5:1. I am running a single plane Indy intake. My converter is flashing at about 5300rpm, I have 4.88 gears and I shift and go through the traps at 7200rpm.
My car is a mostly stock weight '65 Belvedere. The car had a 2" adapter with a 9375 Dominator on it last year. I installed a 1000cfm Holley HP with Barry Grant bowl extensions this spring. The car slowed down about 3 tenths to 10.7s spinning bad, but the low speed drivability and throttle response is way better. The plugs stay waaaaay cleaner for the limited street driving I do.
I have had good luck with 84 primary jets and 88 secondary jets with 34 degrees timing. Plugs look good.

This is a tough question. Normally a race engine of that size will respond favorably to a Dominator carb. You are right the initial hit/response of the 4150 carb (950) will be better. However, in your combo, I feel too many other things are limiting the engine, so the Dominator will not ET better.

I would expect your combo to respond favorably to a carb spacer under the 950 carb. Have you tried that?

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like we'll be able to T&T Sunday up Raceway Park. I'll take the 950 just in-case the Dominator is a bust.

My buddy gave me a one inch spacer.......what size would you suggest Jim? 2 inch? Hood clearance isn't and issue. Randy
