Hello,
The clock in my Challenger Rallye dash has never worked. I've heard people talk about switching these clocks to Quartz. Was wondering if anyone has experience doing that??

A few questions:

- Can the clock come out independently (thru the back) or will I need to remove the entire Rallye Cluster to get at it?

- What exactly is a "Quartz Conversion"? Will I neeed to send in my clock and someone changes out the internals ... or is this a brand new clock?

- Lastly, do these new Quartz clocks require DC power? I ask only because I often keep my battery disconnected. Would be cool if they were somehow independently powered so the time would always stay set.

Thanks much for any answers!!

I have purchased several items from RT Engineering and had great quality, service, and support. I'd recommend them for either selling you the kit, or actually doing the work for you. I did my own on a 69 Rallye dash and it was pretty simple.

The RT Engineering link provided above will provide your answers. Here's the Cliff Notes:

a. If you're dexterous, you can get the clock out without pulling the cluster.

b. This replaces the "guts" of your clock, while retaining the face. You can do it yourself, or have them do it for a fee. The resulting second-hand movement will be smooth, instead of one-second ticks. This matters not to most people, but purists can tell at a glance a clock that has been retrofitted.

c. The power comes from your car's 12 volt system. No battery connection = the clock's right twice a day.

Down to just a blue car now.

Great.. Thanks for the link and info!

So, it looks like for power, you can't use the same electrical connection that the original clock is using? It needs to be a new connection?

Thanks!

It does use the original clock power connection... but that won't be getting power if you disconnect the battery.
