What does everyone seem to be timming these strokers at? mines a 416 with about 10 to 1 with eddy heads

I used to run about 34 on my old motor

I know yours might be different then mine.

Just looking for a general Idea where everyone is starting

Thanks

34* in my 408. checked it while on the chassis dyno. did'nt like 32* or 36*. 360-1 heads 10.5:1 comp, solid roller 268/272@50-.700/680-108.

Last time I was out with my 408 I ran 31 degrees total. I've run as high as 38, but it seems to like 31 best so far. Similar set up to yours - running ported iron rams 246 / 250 @ .050 with 108LSA. Running a tight quench @ about .035".

Mines at 29, general rule of thumb is that they usually don't like alot of time. We tested mine on the dyno and that's what it liked best

Mine was tested on the Dyno and was best at 35. W2 ported heads, comp Cam XR286HR. 10.5:1

I have read in the MSD ignition book that it depends a lot about the shape of your combustion chambers. Old open style like mine are less efficient and requires more advance, newer style with quench does not need as much etc...

Lots of variables here, head shape, compression fuels, cam timing , air temps, even a dyno session wont tell you whats best on the track, that's what test and tune is all about, I have run from 29 to 36 on my w5 rig and seems that 34 works for most conditions, I not saying its the best but it works

My old iron headed 414 with tight quench and a Ross dual quench style piston @ 12.1:1 on 110 race gas liked 30* the best. Bumping down from 34 to 30 at a T&T netted over a tenth and a half gain and nearly 2 mph. Never really found the time to try it lower. Interestingly, when I freshened the motor just before I sold the car, we went with a diff cam, but that was the only change and it HATED 30* . Set it at 34 and picked up almost 2 tenths, go figure. I only ran it that one weekend then sold it, so I never got to really fine tune it. I can only guess that the cam choice sacrificed efficiency in the combustion process.
