What do you folks use for a cheap paint job for the inside of your trunk??

I'm thinking of using duplicolor truck bed coating spray bombs. Has anyone tried these? What about eastwood or duplicolor spatter paint??

I have used the spatter paint in the past with good results. I know it is Chevy stuff but IMO it looks good. This is the only picture I can find of it from the Valiant

Depends on the year of the car. Early cars had spatter paint, later ones used body color. Either looks fine to me.

It all depends on what dirrection your taking with the car. If you are going the modified route then the spatter paint will look fine. The picture above looks really good.

If you are going a more stock route, then I'd go body color. Totally Auto sells automotive grade paint in spray cans if you don't have a spray gun. Member "Sharpie"(I think)had very good results using Totally Autos paint when he did the engine comp in his Demon. Good luck.

One thing I don't like about the looks of that splatter paint is that it looks like if you ever change your mind it would be a PITA to get everything smooth again if you wanted to do body color. However my trunk was done body color years ago and is now all scratched up inside because I use it as a trunk and I don't like keeping a rubber mat or carpet in there because they trap water leaks.

My car is just going to be a cut-up street/strip hotrod. I just want to use something that is durable and easy to touch up. So, body color is out of the question

I'm leaning towards spatter paint, but I’m really curious to see if someone has used duplicolor’s truck coating. Here is a couple pictures I found of a Mustang with it’s trunk painted with duplicolor truck bed coating.

A few guys on here are painting the whole underside of thier cars with it so I think it will hold up just fine in the trunk. It would be more durable than spatter paint.

'65 - '73 C Body cars used spatter paint in the trunk except for the center part of the trunk floor.

I would use actual bed liner material based on your posts.

Bill

NOOOOO!!!!!

avoid the spray bomb!!!

the cheap spray bomb stuff stays soft, doesn't stick very well, and will scratch off if you put things in there. I admit, it looks good when you first do it, for about 10 minutes.

I had the bed of my Dakota sprayed with that stuff, to hide the years of abuse. it looked good till I put some folding lawn chairs in it...and they slid around, and it scraped off and stuck to the chairs. 2 months later, it would still scrape off with a finger nail.

if you use bed liner, get the good stuff that actually hardens.

I have since swapped my bed from another truck to avoid having to do body work to the bed rail where the wind ripped off my bed cover, so that crap is gone, thank god!

I used that duplicolor spray bomb bedliner to seal up some floor pans after brushing on some primer. It gives a real nice finish but I don't know how durable that stuff really is. Anything without a hardener mixed in prior to application likely won't be as strong. But it won't be any weaker than regular body paint and much easier to touch up. Just a PITA if you ever change your mind and want it gone.

I see a lot of rattle-can bedliner jobs in truck beds that are peeling & chipping; probably asa much to do with preparation as anything. We shoot the real bedliner stuff at work, and that stuff is HEAVY. If you prep the surface properly (grind it with basically about 50 grit), it will never come off. It doesn't like to be painted over. In an A-body trunk it would easily add 30-40 lbs, and it requires high pressure to spray it properly.
My Duster racecar has had the dark spatter paint in it forever, and it has held up well. I went over it 16 years ago and it still looks cherry. I don't throw anything in there, though, only a trickle charger, and its 2 batteries are in marine boxes. If the car has always had a painted trunk area like factory, I'd have left it that way, but it's way easier to touch-up or respray spatter paint from a rattle can than it is to properly refinish as factory.

Okay next question. Where does everyone get their spatter paint?

I've noticed duplicolor makes some as well as eastwood. Any preferences?
