I'm looking at picking up a 71 6-pack car that is missing its motor but I have a 70 440 non HP with a forged crank that im thinking of using to build the replacement motor. I not that knowledgeable about the 6-pack motor besides the obvious 6-pack set up so I have a few questions

Am I right in the fact that all 440 motors have the same block? What all do I need to make this a correct factory looking 6-pack motor besides the 6-pack set-up....What heads, rods, exhaust manifolds, crank balancer, fan...etc?

Thanks

anything inside is on you. If you are going from scratch you might as well go get new crank/rods/pistons and so on. You can find kits as low as $1399. If you have a crank just call summit or jegs and order a engine kit. I would not use 6-pack rods or have old LY's re-coned. There are nicer, lighter stronger rods availble. As for externals I'm gussing you just want to make sure all the dates/part number would be available on a 71 model.

You would need the big rods and external balanced type harm. balancer and torque converter or flywheel for one. The block should also be stamped HP on pad too I believe for 1971 too.

In my opinion , If you are building a real 71 V code car, you should look for a correct dated 71 HP block . All 71 440 HPs have the six pack rods crank balancer , so that is a much better, and correct, starting point for your build.
