I had to set-up a customers Hemi equipped car with a vacumm pump, as the engine could only hold about 7-9 inched of vac, the automatic tranny and lumpy/low idle made for dangerous booster power,....the pump solved the problems but the owner was iritated by the sound of the pump when it ran,.....I would recommend a vac reserve canister be put in the system as well,...can't hurt

Vacuum canister, if you get the right one, should have a check valve in it. Should be all you need to have consistent vacuum. Otherwise get rid of anything that needs vacuum to operate. I prefer the latter.

My 493" only pulls 5-6hg at idle, but the power brake booster seems to work just fine? It is a stick car, and I did just have the booster rebuilt. I'm not sure at what minimum vacumm rating that the booster problems start at, but maybe I lucked out and am just above that?

Yes, i run one on my 528 hemi. It's great. Only runs a few seconds when you turn on the key. I have never heard it run with the motor running. I don't know how you could hear it with the car running because it does not make that much noise.
Mounted it in the fender well just opposite the booster and it is hardly noticeable.

I run a vacuum pump. I tried the canister and it didn't quite get the job done. My pump is mounted on my battery tray next to my Optima. It is on insulator feet, so it is very quiet and only runs intermittently for short intervals. I can hear it sometimes for a few seconds if I listen at idle. I put a toggle in line so I can cut it off at cruise ins/shows at low speed/idle. I definitely recommend that, since it isn't much extra work, but use one of those flip type toggle caps for safety so you don't accidentally flip it going down the road.

It works GREAT. As long as you wire it safely and mount it with the rubber feet, you will be happy. In case of failure, you'd be able to stop, so I wouldn't worry there.

I will say that I am going to go hydro boost on my next car. That way is more expensive, but probably superior. I'm doing it just to try something different than what's on the Cuda.

Went to pull-a-part and the small cadillacs and buicks had a vacuum booster. Pulled two brought em home and walla had a electric vacuum booster. Mounted one up under the fenderwell. Would kick on when I turned the key on an then a few seconds later kick off. Never heard it when the car was runnung. I pulled the mounting brackets and everything off the caddy, came rubber mounted.

Your only running a single diaphram booster,(from your pic) the requirement is less,...if you were running a double diaphram (Bendix) there would be problems,...an automatic transmission compounds the problem,....a manual tranny, you step on the clutch just prior to braking, so engine RPM isn't allowed to drop drastically, like it would with an automatic will brakeing,...so there's more vacumm present with a manual tranny equipped car just prior to braking

I put one of the GM ones on my 66 Toronado plumbed right in to run the brakes - worked great and never knew it was there sound-wise.

I have an electric pump out of a 78 Cadillac DeVille. I actually popped three of them out and made one unit with the newest parts of the lot. I have it mounted under my battery tray, completely out of sight, on rubber feet. You can hear it when it turn on when I put the key right before turning over the starter. I let it run for the 3 seconds and then kick over the motor.

I have it hooked up to a Vacuum canister that looks like it holds about a liter of space. Its mounted in the fenderwell. When we first fired up the motor the vacuum gauge was at 11". These days its at 5-6 because I was tweaking the engine here and there. With a few diagnostic tools I just picked up I am going to do my best to get her back up to 11" or more.

I had to install it because I have the factory brake booster, and vacuum headlights. Ever seen a 69 Charger with the one headlight opening quick and the passenger side sloooooooooooooooowly opening...yeah..that annoyed me...Don't have a lopey cam, just a 480/280 Isky. I have a 540 roller cam set up in the next motor so this pump will come in handy then.
