Getting ready to install motor in truck and go racing, then got to thinking about girdle. Never ran one before but never built an engine with this much power, was wandering what you guys thought. Engine is going to be shifted at 7200 rpm, about 575 horsepower. Thanks

I run one in mine, but I don't think I would tear it apart to do it now, maybe during your next freshen-up,,,I haven't torn mine apart since I installed mine, so I cannot tell yet if it has done anything to help or not.

Finally a HUSKER again
I have one in my 408. i did it because I like the theory behind it, and understand how its gonna help with how things move down there. I didnt set mine up with any preload, I didnt have a mill around to make the caps even, pluss I didnt like the fact of putting a stress riser on the caps. So I think its a good deal, and glad we have hughes engines, and Mancinni out there who specialize in our mopars.

Any other thoughts on this?
I sure don't want to hurt my 340 and now would be the time to install one.
who may sell the best?

Hughes, you may have to notch for rod bolt clearance just a little bit.

I've never run one... with my stock block and a
3.79 crank I was running 8200 rpm and the mains and
rod bearings looked great every time I opened it

I run it in my 410/59* -r block and have well over 300 1/8 mile passes. All looked great last winter when checked over

good that's really what I wanted to hear.
after reading the instructions it appears the best install for a girdle is once installed the block should be line bored.
I'll leave as is.

We have one that connects all the main cap bolts into the girdle. If your not afraid of a little bit of machine work, It should work fine for you. We have made 690bhp@6550 RPM with it, on my 318 block.

I have a Hughes girdle, just the girdle, no studs/bolts/etc, if someone makes an offer... send me a PM.

I was going to use one with my build. I handed the hughes one to Ryan J and he laughed in my face and said it wouldnt do anything. Went with billet mains instead.

So kenny how do you make the drivers side bolt clear the oil pimp on the rear cap? Already no space for a stud under there

Exactly...if you cannot locate the CAPS themselves, then it's of no benefiet. That's why the jap engines have the main caps cast together with the girdle all in one...that's the best way IMO.

The caps are milled flat on top, and spot milled on the rear cap so that everything is at the same elevation. No spacers in the equation to make it more effective. It is a band aid solution for using the stock block and caps, but sometimes a race block just isn't in the cards.

I have had the engine a part after seeing a fair bit of RPM and everything checks out nicely, so it seems to be doing something to help.

As for clearance under the oil pump, it is tight! We use an Allen head grade 8 bolt counter sunk 1/4" and the clearance the pump housing, and shave a bit off the top of the bolt head.

my 416 stroker doing about 650 hp had a girdle and everytime i took it apart it had cap walk signs.
Come on who thinks a piece of 1/4" (or whatever it was) of sheetmetal would do any good?
If i would put it in a wice i think i could have bent it with my bare hands.

aldough it makes a nice windage tray.

Yeah, there aren't any thick ones out there really. Another reason why We made our own from 1/2" material. Good luck bending 1/2" by hand. We also had it on an "R&D" project with some Honda journal rods that didn't quite make the grade. number one rod came apart and smacked the girdle hard. Didn't bend the girdle at all.
