Looking to put external oiling on the 499. I found a couple kits but don't know which ones are good. Thanks in advance

Well there is several options. I know that a melling HV oil pump with a Indy cover has the ability to move enough oil to 8K in larger 560+ cid engines. Go with the Indy pickup also. I ran a standard HV melling pump and a Indy Pump cover (this avoids buying a different intermediate shaft also) supplying one line, and the aftermarket blocks have a boss near the timing cover to go to to provide the other line for a duel line system, without the center piece used on the milodon pumps which some people hate due to the green gasket failures. I dont see no reason that a single line static pickup or swinging pickup running just the Indy cover would be more than plenty. Milodon pickup Vs Indy Pickup Either way I suggest a Oil accumulator for the best insurance available.

If you measure the area of the holes in the Milodon swinging pickup vs the size of the passages in -12 lines you'll find they're virtually identical (that's even leaving off a few holes as a safety margin). The Milodon's have worked for 25 years on some of the healthiest motors on the planet so while the Indy pickup is nice for the few extra bucks, its not a "must have" for a healthy, safe oil system. If you were only running a single line to a swivel pickup then there'd be absolutely no added value to the Indy unit.
Ya see those forged 90 degree fittings? Well if oil flow is a concern you'll either want to use the tube style "full flow" fittings OR modify the the inside of those forged units. When they drill the holes, the intersection point of the two holes leaves a significant lip that will hinder flow. They should be touched up with a ball-shaped bit in a die grinder.
although what you say is true that the hole at the pickup point is similar in size to a -12 hose, the swinging arm itself is not round, most are an oval design which means they're no longer -12 flow rate but somewhere closer to -8. oil can only flow as fast as it's smallest orifice& this is where if you're not careful is your limiting factor on your oil system. this is why i run the static line as it has less restriction. you're right again about the 90* bends in the system, the bend that i have coming off the pickup onto the hose was massaged as you described with a ball cutter on a pencil grinder & smoothed over with some fine emery tape to produce a more contoured bend, same thing with the cast oil holes in the cover, they all got opened up & made to be more flow friendly. nothing gets put on my motor without my dabbling hands having a go at doing something to make it better.

Thanks for the info. Contacted Muscle Motors and since I run a remote filter Mike said the Milodon would be a good choose. I think Barton also has a pump but haven't got that info yet. Also I see 440source has one(don't flame me on it) has anybody used it?

As for pump covers, the Milodon has its problems as previously mentioned but Muscle Motors has solved those issues with a one-piece cover for $100..
I have the Muscle Motors cover on mine....Can't go wrong with that one!! It is a nice peice!
...It is nice, but if you plan on running a system 1 filter, the ID of the mating surface for the filter over laps the oil ports on the filter to the point, that if it wasn't for the ~.130" offset(of the ports) towards the radiator the oil would be shut off. I chose to bevel it to a bigger ID for better flow. And the axle port O-ring "seat" is another issue for another time.

i'm sure like any other pump cover it could be massaged to work very well. i was given a ray barton cover once to clean up the oil passages so just because a part has a high dollar name doesn't mean it can't be improved on. my $20 air powered pencil grinder has been a great investment on my race engine.
