I'm getting ready to swap out either for another one or a different one. Just curious to see people's opinion on blue pumps and other brands. This is just for a street/strip 64 Valiant. 346 with six barrel set up. Ported E-brock heads with only around 9.5 to 1 compression.

The problem is that it went quite....hardly doing anything. I haven't really got too knee deep into to yet. I was thinking of just going ahead and buying another Holley blue pump and then rebuilding the one that's on there for a spare.

Thanks for the feed back.

I haven't had much success with vane pumps for fuel - and won't buy another one - any brand. I currently run a Holley geroter pump ( 150 gph ) with no problems for 3 years now.

Gerotor seems to me to be an inherently superior method, but a Holley blue pump's been on my drag car for so long I don't recall...but at least 12 years. It's not a street car, though.

The one on my car is ten years old, running with a holley deadhead regulator and still going strong. It is the only pump that has held up on my buddies diesel truck. Great pump for the price, just alittle noisey.

I think a mechanical would feed your car just fine. My van runs on a 120 gph carter street pump (6 psi) just great. I have a holley blue pump that is only on to feed the fuel to the nitrous system (was only $10 more than a black pump so why not?). Just curious

Thanks guys. I already have an electric blue pump an I really don't want to change the fuel system to much from what I got as far as pluming and such.

Thanks guys.

My blue has been going strong since about 95. Have a red just as old on the street Coronet. No complaint other than a little noisy. Also use a red as a fuel transfer pump.

I only use the Holley red pump on my sons Dart and my 63. He has had the one on his Dart since 1996 and mine has been on my 63 since I put it on the road in 2006 or about 4 years. They have worked great for our street/strip cars that we drive alot on the street. Ron

Another question.....has anyone put in a shut off valve so that they could work on the system back at the tank? If so what and where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking? Thanks again for your time.

do you mean so that you can unhook the lines and not have the fuel from the lines drain out all over the place?

nope. Can't say that I did, I just wait till the tank is almost empty to do my maintenance, and if it's not almost empty and it needs maintenance...well, I guess that's why I have 3 5-gallon plastic gas cans laying around!

I would keep right away from the "Holley"blue & go to a"Mallory 140". They are a Gearotor in Billit Aluminum. The Holley does not last many years street driven, whereas the Mallory has been on my car doing around 12-15000 miles a yr for 14 yrs now & still faultless.
Plus, they are Very quite compared to a Gear Pump.
Mine is on a 12:00@118 Charger with 500 stroker.
Mike in New Zealand.

I always have a ball valve at at the sump so that I can shut off the fuel supply when the engine is not running. It is before teh filter and pump so that I don't have to drain the cell/tank to replace the filter or pump. Or worry about fuel siphoning while the car sits. It doesn't happen often but have seen it.

Sorry, but that filter is so wrong if you that in front of the pump, Real bad example. #10 should be feeding the pump, no smaller.

hi
got a blue holley on my car , have had it appart several times due to dirt in tank ,had to clean screen in pump .

worst thing is noise , get a carter 4594 much quieter and efficent pump for a street car .
and for a street car a filter in front of the pump is not a bad thing !

Cool, that's what I need right there......I'm in to ease of maintenance.

Don't know what is so wrong about it. It has fed the car that way for years and works fine. The ball valve is between the cell and the filter , this filter is before the pump as it is supposed to be. Have had guys that have race for a lot of years tell what a good idea that that is and have installed one. So it can't be too wrong. You can feed your pump with as big a line as you want to run to it but it isn't going to feed any better or faster than the fitting & inlet size of the pump.

It's that you have a 10 micron filter in front of that holley pump which will cause cavation and short pump life. A 50-100 micron screen should be used in the outlet fitting in the cell or a 50-100 micron filter before the pump and that fram filter after the pump, really.
Holley will tell you #10 hose should feed the pump.

I just didn't want guys to make the same mistake. Sorry

I have a blue Holley pump with a Fram HP-1 filter in front of it.It's been run that way since 1981,and I changed the pump in 2000 because the fuel cell was left dry for a year and the foam went thru the pump. The current pump has been running for 10 years with no problems.

Short life??? I really don't call 15 seasons & hundreds of passes on a used swap meet pump a short life. There are probably thousands of filters like that set up ahead of the pump, I know that I m not the only one because I have seen a lot of them and some of them on some pretty hot shoe cars. Do what ever turns your crank.
