just curious if this would work or not

engine is 440, fuel tank is new, using original sending unit (not 440, no return provision)

however, there are the 4 vent tubes at the upper drivers side of the tank that go into the rear wheel well, then one comes back out, but goes nowhere since the car's been modified.

now for my idea that may or may not be a good one: run a chevy style fuel filter with the vapor return nipple on it, run a line back to the gas tank and have it connected to one of those vent tubes and then cap the others off - i'd guess i would need a vented cap if this is possible to do.

just looking for ideas

That must be the '71
Yes, you could remove the entire vapor can behind the rear wheel, connect the vapor hard line to one of the tanks vapor lines, plug two other lines, maybe just connect one fuel line to two vapor lines, then connect the last vapor line to a vent above the tank level so the tank is vented.
You could use a fuel filter with a vent line like the ones used on the mid '70's Cordobas, or add a "t" fitting near the carburator, and install a jet or drilled out plug (piece of brass or aluminum rod drilled with maybe a 0.060" drill) in the return line.

My 68 Hemi RR came with the vapor return filter. It worked so well I've installed them on my cuda. I replaced the stock fuel line with a 3/8 and used the stock fuel line as my vapor return line. My cuda is a 72 so it had the 4 line vent, I replaced the tank with a 71 and ran my vent line to the 71 vent. So far so good (3 years)

Not sure i understand what you mean by vapor return line. I have an 72 cuda. I removed the vapor canister in the engine bay. There is a line that runs back to the trunk area to another canister and the canister has several hoses coming out of it..
I was thinking about using that line for my fuel return line buy tying it directly to one of the fuel tank nipples? What you guys think about that.
