Hi All!
Just had our annual Mopar Raceday yesterday. It's always been such an awesome day, and yesterday was no exception.

Yesterday was only the second time I'd actually driven the car since last years meeting, and I haven't had a chance to change a thing.
Last year, my last and best run was 12.66 @ 114.
Yesterday, my first two runs went 12.56 @ 114 and 12.54 @ 113.
Third and final run, they'd just put new compound on the track about 3 cars before my run, so I thought I could give it some more gas on the launch... As I started to go sideways, I realized I was wrong!

Anyway, my combo is certainly mismatched and has a long way to go, but if you wanted to shave a second off the ET, how would you go about it (tires would be first!)?
Do you think I could even shave a second without going back into the engine?

Here's the combo:
A .030 over 440 block with Indy aluminium main caps and a Callies 4.25" crank, Oliver billet rods and Diamond pistons, giving a compression ratio of 10.4:1. On top is a pair of E'brock heads with some minor work, Indy rockers, and a 0.587/0.593 287/294 cam, under an M1 intake and 1050 Dominator. Downstream is a Mopar 175K converter and a 3.55 rear end, and 'huge' 205/70/14 tires.
I should also add that my A/F ratio was about 13.7:1 as I crossed the stripe.

Cheers!

I think you could take 1 second off pretty quick??

Well the air fuel would almost indicate fuel system is not keeping up or it needs bigger jets. (info on carb number and jetting + power valve info if available)
60 foot is awful so there is a lot in slicks or bigger sticky streets and maybe some suspension tuning.
What is the total timing at?? in by?? no vacuum advance I hope when racing?

Dodgem,
My cam specs state: Dur@ .050 259(intake) 266 (exhaust).

I'd have to check the carb, I can't remember what the jetting was once replaced the metering blocks, but I haven't done any tuning at all so I'm sure theres room for improvement there.

No vac advance at all, and I can't remember what I set the timing at (it was about 2 years ago, and it was whatever was the 'typical' setting. Does 32degrees all in by about 1800rpm sound about right?).

Also, I'm running 2.5" exhaust through el cheapo summit muffs. I'd imagine that there'd be an improvement by going to 3"?

bigger tires, more convertor and a little tuning for starters. that alone will net a huge gain in performance.

if you can't there's something drastically wrong with it. as others mentioned, slicks, converter, more gear and tuning. what car, weight, suspension and is it race only or strip/street?

James,
It's a heavy ol' '67 Belvedere street-strip vehicle...

What would people recommend for converter?

Well 3" Dynomax ultraflow welded and X pipe will probably be 5 to 6 tenths faster alone. A 3" pipe will flow over 40% more than a 2.5.

Then timing up to 38.
then converter (4000, 3500 minimum) bigger sticky tires and 4.1 gears, Cal tracs , ranco shocks and mono springs and I can see you making 10's or pushing it real hard.

Carb and jetting??
Fuel system??

100%.........

In order, It needs putting some more jet in it...........sticky tires........then at least a 4,000 converter (I recommend PTC)..........

With those 3 things, it's got 11.60's or better in it.......

What's it got for tires????

If you can't handle the truth, you're living a lie.......

I`ve been 11.80`s # 114 w/a 360 so, dial in those 60 ft. times and change to a 4.10 gear set and you should be there. That combo should be WAY quicker.........keep at it!

72 Dart 470 n/a BB stroker street car `THUMPER`...Check me out on FB Dominic Thumper for videos and lots of carb pics......760-900-3895.....

Thanks all!!!
Yep, tuning is certainly on top of the list, and I'll be hitting you all up for suggestions regarding torque converters in a month or so when I'm ready to make a purchase (along with some decent tires!!!)...
Quick question though, which is probably better left for it's own thread, but what sort of 'road' mileage are people getting out of their MT drag radials?
I'm trying to decide on getting simple MT drag radials (or similar), or a dedicated set of slicks that I'd have to fit onto the car once I drove to the track??? The car will/should see much more road time than track time.
