How should I do it chemical stripper or with a DA sander? I have used both (on a hood) and they seem to both take time. Going to strip entire car body now. I am not sure about using the chemical stripper because I would have to wash down the entire body after using. Only problem is that I have no windshield or rear glass in to keep water out during wash down. I also do not want the chemical stripper to ruin a good paint job down the road if it's not all removed from the body. How would you approach this process? What luck have you folks had with getting your cars blasted by a professional? Thanks for any replies

Blasting make the most sense.

There's been a lot of debate on which type of media is best - sand, walnut shells, soda, plastic, etc.

I've had it done a number of ways and in my opinion plain blasting sand works best because it removes 'everything' and leaves you with the least amount of prep work. It also leaves you with the best anchor profile for your primer to adhere to.

The plastics/baking soda will leave the metal too smooth and won't remove rust. But if you have a fiberglass piece they work well.

The hard part is to find someone you can trust to do the job quickly and properly. We've all heard stories of guys who take 6 months to get the job done, and guys who over pressure the sand and damage the panels.

Finding someone who can be trusted and do a good job in a certain amount of time is definitely a hard find. I'll have to sleep on what way to go. Thanks for the responses!

Depending on how complete of job you need to do. Mechanical stripping over large area panels is easy, and just use chemical in the tight areas. But if your doing the undercarriage as well, then blasting or similar is better. I had a stripped out Austin mini van blasted and it cost me $1500.
