you shift 1-2-3-4
no straight cut gears in a 833/OD trans. just reverse IIRC.

The shift pattern is still the normal 'H' pattern. The 3-4 lever on the side of the trans is rotated (flipped if you prefer) 180* and pionts downward, rather than upward as on a non-O.D. A-833 4-speed.
The below is a pic of an O.D. A-833 installed in a van, so the angle of the shift rods is different, but the 3-4 lever (frontmost lever) can clearly be seen pinting downward, as it should be:
You may need to adjust the rod length after you flip the lever to the correct downward-pointing position.

Here's how these things work, and WHY you turn the 3-4 shift lever is DOWN because that reverses the shift mechanism operation.
When you put the lever in "3rd" position, the reversed lever actually puts the transmission in the "old" "4th" gear (straight through) position, and when you put the lever in 4th, the reversed linkage actually puts the transmission in the old "3rd" gear position, which now is comprised of the overdrive ratio.
A little clue for ya. If you have any hard pulling or trailer towing, the "new" 3rd gear--the straight through gear--is much much stronger than the OD 4th gear.

I know you shift 1-2-3-4, lol. I guess I didnt word it right. My question is how can you reverse the 3-4 rod on an E body so I can shift in a normal pattern because it doesnt seem possible with out some sort of modification. Also there will be no towing in my Cuda.
Thanks,
Matt
You don not need to reverse the shifter rod, just rotate the 3-4 lever on the side of the trans 180*- make sure it's pointing downward.
You may need to add additional length to the 3-4 shifter rod after you rotate the lever. If after rotating the lever the rod is now too short and there is not enough length to allow for safe operation, you'll need a longer shifter rod. I don't know the ins and outs of E-bodies, but you may need a different 3-4 shifter rod entriely if there is crossmember interference with the new lever position.
Surely someone here has an E-body with the O.D. A-833.
