I have a set 2531110m hemi heads on the 472. I've read discussions on valve seat fitment and valve guide issues, but I'm curious about the porosity issues. What exactly is the issue? Symptoms? Identifying, Consequences? Tests? Remedies?
I have no issues with oil in coolant, coolant in oil, compression, oil pressure and coolant pressure but I am alot neurotic and a little OCD and would like some feedback on the issues associated with porosity.
Also is there a list of Mopar performance casting #s, casting dates associated with the quality control problems
Thanks
Glenn C

There were many problems with the early Hemi heads...by early I mean the re-issued versions cast before the Edelbrock versions.

Have not heard of any problems with the E-Brock castings.

Porosity is something that is fairly easy to look for before assembly and can be backed up with pressure checks.

Since your motor is running fine, and has no mixing of fluids I wouldn't worry about it.

What do you look for? What type of pressure checks?

Normally porosity will like like a really nasty finish on the casting (lumps, rough, etc)or small little voids. In the majority of cases the effects show up right away (not that it can't show up later). I think if you have used them and they haven't leaked, you should be fine

Yes I did. I bought them from FHO. Tim took pity on me and gave me a great deal on a set of CNC ported heads. Way more than I need for the street.

The dyno showed max torque at 5500RPM, but it was over 500 from 3200 all the way to 6500rpm. We turned it to 6500 and it made 658 HP it hadn't peaked. I figured that was high enough. I wasn't sure if I would like it on the street, but this is the best it's run since I've owned and pulls harder than the other two combination.

I did get a close look at the Edelbrock version. If I hadn't bought the stage V's I would have definitely used them and they may have had more torque down low due to the smaller ports.
