Having a little charging issue on my nieces cuda. It's 2500 miles away. I can't recall if the alternator puts out volts if regulator is bad. Right now it reads battery voltage when running even at higher RPM. My brother just replaced the brushes in new alt and did it wrong... took to alt shop and corrected and tested and said it was ok, but not charging now. I'm pretty sure he fried the regulator, but don't want to thow parts at it. Thanks in advance, Mike

Well I checked on one of my cars and unplugged the regulator and no charging, so asked and answered. Mike

well yes that will stop charging, but a bad ground on the vr will do the same.
Also you can check sensing voltage to the vr and output voltage from the vr to see if the vr is actually bad.

To check to see if the alt is bad, ground the field wire(s) just for an instant and it should go to full charge.

I have a ground to the bolt for the VR. Ended up being loose bulkhead connector. Funny the A/C that I wired in the sae harness worked. It was all new wiring.
