Never ran a holley carb before and need some input. My buddie tell me to take out the powervalve because race cars dont need them. I bought carb new, it has 76 jets in the primarys with a 45 powervalve and 84 jet in the sec. with no powervalve. he says to take uot the 76 out of the primarys and put in 82s and tune from there. My junk is a 65 valiant 2900lbs, backhalfed and tubbed, 30 over 440 with ported 906 heads and a 590 solid cam.

I would agree with him... I'm not a big fan of PVs
on a race engine.... sure some guys use them BUT
most are street/strip guys.... to me its just another
thing that can fail.... JMO

Do you run it on the street any? Sometimes power valves are needed to clean up part throttle cruise on the street.

I have to run a power valve to clean my dominator up at part throttle footbraking it.

As long as the carb is set up the same as far as the primary/secondary air bleeds and emulsion is concerned I would take the power valve out and just square jet it.

This car is strictly a race car, I have always ran a thermoquad in the past with the car running 6.80s in the 1/8th. I thought I better learn how to tune on holley before going to bigger engine with aluminum heads which is going to be my winter prodgect.
