A quick search pulled up this... http://shortorderproducts.com/RibType_Pages/rt-ab_RibType_FONTS/rt_ab_RibType_Fonts.html

FWIW I bought three sets from my local print shop back in the 90's, All three sets together were around fifty bucks... I've used them on six cars & I've loaned them to a few friends...

We will be offering the original type stamps by the end of the summer. They will incorporate the exact font as the ones used by the factory. Here is a sample of what was in my Challenger and the stamps I made that matched exactly what was originally there.

On the other side of your third member, under the protruding lip, is there another white stamping of some kind? If not, that marking may be some type of date code for your particular unit. Keep in mind that there were a couple of variations and changes for the way the date was stamped throughout the year.

Your casting is completely different than the one in my car. I have seen the variations but never gave it too much thought. That is the date stamped on the side by the filler hole because that casting did not allow enough room to be stamped on the reinforcing rib underside. Look at my example and you can see the difference. My date of 12/6 is stamped on the underside of the casted rib. I will post 3 different rear end housings (as soon as I take the pictures) to show the contrasting styles that were used. Thanks!

Is the three digit yellow number on both side or one side of the housing tube? I cleaned mine and found one but that doesn't mean the other wasn't there (if there was one on the other side).

Here's mine; '68 Charger R/T, 3.23:1 non-suregrip with 11" drums. "242"

You are correct. I documented a Challenger T/A that had another yellow stamping on the direct opposite adjacent side of the front date stamping. I would like to find someone who worked at the facility and was part of this stamping procedure. They could help take the guess work out of what we are trying to uncover.

That is the casting date of the housing unit. The actual assembly date (Gears, pinion, etc...) of the rear end would be what was designated by the white stamping.

Can you guys indicate a font which is a good approximation of the 3 digit part number on the axle tube?

I found a couple that were close but not an exact match. I had to take the fonts into an "illustrator" program and convert them into "characters" in order to manipulate and change their appearance. That allowed me to match the exact font and replace what I found on my axle setup.

The stampings were done to make "sense" for whatever plant or employees needed to understand the rear end breakdown. I am not sure what all of the variations and colors of markings meant. Having the original samples certainly makes it easier to eliminate the guess work when trying to replace them.
I can have stamps made up at anytime. I do not have a set program or pricing as of yet. We just finished the different fonts, so this project is still in the beginning stages.
