Finally a HUSKER again
So I have a 750 double pumper with a pro form main body worked over by quick fuel. Has 4 courner idle, adjustable air bleeds, and all the goodies. I have a pretty healthy little 360, nicely ported J heads, a really nice comp hydro roller cam, and a set of 10 to 1 kb pistons in it. In second gear at about 3000 rpm, when I go to snap the throttle, or even just slightly roll into it slowly it has a dead spot in it, and Its running a bit rich. I have 72 jets in the front and 74s in the secondaries. Where is the dead spot coming from? Do I have the wrong accelorator cam in the thing, or the wrong power valve? My cam is speced at @50 236 INT, and 242 EXH, and the lift is .570 INT, ans .550 EXH with a lobe separation of 112.0. It idles fine, never gets over 190, but isnt very responsive, kinda sluggish from an idle. I have the timing set at 34 overall, and have a MSD ignition with a mopar performance 6AL. Just want to get a base line on the carb setting, It runs like hell above 2000, and pulls great through 6000, I just want it leaned out a bit, and the dead spot to go home.

Oh it idles at 800, and its lumpy as hell.\

Thanks

Kasey

Sounds like a nice combination. Why is the problem more evident in second gear at 3,000 RPM?
Your description makes it sound like you are getting too much fuel from the accelerator pump(s), and maybe also from the power valve circuit?
Nice carb to work with. What size accelerator pump nozzels?, pump cam color and screw position?
Power valve vacuum rating, and restrictor sizes (screw in under the power valve?) Also, how many tuens out are the idle adjustment screws? This might indicate if the idle restrictions are too big or small.
Also, what is idle vacuum in gear, and when highway crusing at steady speed?

Well its a stick, and the rest Ill have to take the carb appart again to see, Does anyone have a good baseline for this set up? I accually new to tuning this style of hollys, I usually tune on the older spread boar, dual feed junkers. I kinda of splurged on this carb for the demon. I guess its no more prevelent in 2nd, Its just where I see it happen more often, I have 3:91 gears so this just happeneds to be where tire smokage and major fun usually happen.

I have a holley 800 with proform main body in my 66 with a bb ....I think proform sends out that main body with 72 front and 84 secondary jets for use with no power valve on the secondary side...Usually you jet up several sizes when you plug a pv, your only 2 sizes up..On mine I'm at 8 jet sizes larger on the secondary side then the primary...I'm just not sure what mods Quickfuel does to the main body...What size power valve? You sure they are 74 in the secondary?
